List of Azerbaijani Heroes of the Soviet Union lists all ethnic Azerbaijani Heroes of the Soviet Union, along with their unit and rank at time of action, and the date of the award. The title Hero of the Soviet Union was the highest distinction of the Soviet Union. [1] 42 Azerbaijanis were awarded the title, including three whose ethnicity is disputed. All Azerbaiajni Heroes of the Soviet Union received their award for actions in World War II. Hazi Aslanov was the only Azerbaijani to receive the title twice.

Karakoz Abdaliev (Russian: Каракозы Абдалиев was a Soviet soldier who was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously in 1943 for his actions during the Battle of the Dnieper. He was reported to have killed 72 German soldiers and destroyed two tanks.
Alexander Dmitryevich Vologin was a Soviet soldier who was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously on January 15, 1944, for his actions during Operation Kutuzov and the Battle of the Dnieper. He was killed on October 17, during the Battle of the Dnieper in modern-day Belarus.
Mehmet Aipov was a Tatar Red Army Soldier who fought during World War II. Aipov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for actions during the Battle of Berlin, where he reportedly killed 26 German soldiers. Aipov died of his wounds after being seriously wounded in the battle.
Ilya Ananevich Kaverin was a Red Army senior sergeant and Hero of the Soviet Union. Kaverin was awarded the title for reportedly resisting German troops from his burned-out tank during the Battle of Kiev in 1943. He reportedly killed 30 German soldiers. After the war Kaverin was demobilized and returned to his native Astara.
Avaz Hashim oglu Verdiyev was an Azerbaijani Red Army Senior Sergeant and a Hero of the Soviet Union. Verdiyev was awarded the title on 23 September 1944 for his actions during the Lvov–Sandomierz Offensive. During the offensive, he reportedly raised the red flag at the Staszów town hall during its capture. Verdiyev was seriously wounded in the Battle of Berlin and died of wounds on 1 May 1945.
Museyib Baghir oglu Baghirov was an Azerbaijani Red Army captain and a Hero of the Soviet Union. Baghirov was awarded the title on 22 February 1944 for his actions during the Battle of the Dnieper, in which his platoon reportedly killed up to 250 German soldiers and destroyed three tanks. Postwar, Baghirov was demobilized and worked in the oil industry.
Garay Latif oglu Asadov was an Azerbaijani Red Army sergeant and a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union. Asadov was posthumously awarded the title on 24 March 1945 for his actions during the Debrecen Offensive Operation. He was reported to have killed 16 German soldiers and was killed while covering a bunker opening with his body.
Samad Hamid oglu Abdullayev was an Azerbaijani Red Army Starshina and a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union. Abdullayev was posthumously awarded the title on 17 November 1943 for his actions during the Kerch–Eltigen Operation, in which he reportedly saved his commander's life on 1 November. He was killed in action four days later.
Mamish Shahbaz oglu Abdullayev was an Azerbaijani Red Army sergeant and a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union. Abdullayev was posthumously awarded the title on 24 March 1945 for his actions in September 1944 during the capture of the Narew bridgeheads, in which he reportedly killed more than 29 German soldiers. Abdullayev was killed in action four months later.
Shamsulla Faizullah oglu Aliyev was an Azerbaijani Red Army captain and a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union. Aliyev was posthumously awarded the title on 16 May 1944 for his leadership of a battalion during the Kerch–Eltigen Operation. During the operation, Aliyev's battalion captured the Kerch Metallurgical Plant and reportedly killed 250 German soldiers. He was killed in action a week later on the outskirts of Kerch.
Ismayil Khalil oglu Bayramov was an Azerbaijani Red Army Starshina and a Hero of the Soviet Union. He was a party organizer in a company of the 243rd Rifle Regiment in the 181st Rifle Division, part of the 6th Army. During the battle for Neumarkt railway station, Bayramov was reported to have killed several dozen German soldiers and repulsed five counterattacks. After reportedly being twice wounded, he blew himself up with a grenade. Bayramov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Soviet Union on 10 April 1945.
Mikayil Mahammad oglu Alakbarov was an Azerbaijani Red Army man and a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union. Alakbarov was posthumously awarded the title on 26 October 1943 for his actions during the Battle of the Dnieper, during which he reportedly repulsed 14 counterattacks and was seriously wounded.
Mastan Aslan oglu Aliyev was an Azerbaijani Red Army Starshina and a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union. Aliyev was posthumously awarded the title for reportedly killing dozens of German soldiers during the Berlin Offensive. He was killed in action during the battle for Tegel.
Gazanfar Gulam oglu Akbarov was an Azerbaijani Red Army senior sergeant and a posthumous Hero of the Soviet Union. Akbarov was awarded the title on 26 October 1944 for his actions in the Lublin–Brest Offensive. Akbarov was reported to have destroyed two tanks with his anti-tank gun and continued to fight while wounded. He was killed in the action.
Museyib Abdulla oglu Allahverdiyev was an Azerbaijani Red Army major and a Hero of the Soviet Union. Allahverdiyev was awarded the title for his leadership of his battalion during the Budapest Offensive. During the offensive, the battalion was reported to have destroyed 25 German tanks, killed up to 1200 soldiers, and captured 2200. Allahverdiyev left the army after the end of the war.
Jamil Mahammad oglu Ahmadov was an Azerbaijani Red Army lieutenant and a Hero of the Soviet Union. Ahmadov was posthumously awarded the title on 24 March 1945 for his actions in Operation Bagration. Ahmadov reportedly continued to command his platoon while wounded and died of his wounds.
Mirza Agamurad oglu Jabiyev was a Talysh origin Azerbaijani Red Army captain and a Hero of the Soviet Union. Jabiyev was awarded the title on 19 April 1945 for his actions in the Battle of Königsberg during the storming of Fort Five. Jabiyev led his platoon in the storming of the fort and reportedly raised the red flag on the main tower of the fort. Jabiyev left the army in 1946 and became chairman of the village council and a kolkhoz director.
Aghashirin Agamamed oglu Jafarov was an Azerbaijani Red Army Starshina and a Hero of the Soviet Union. He was awarded the title on 1 November 1943 for his actions during the Battle of the Dnieper, where he was reported to have killed up to 300 German soldiers with his machine gun. He was discharged postwar and worked as chairman of a Kolkhoz.
Salahaddin Hasan oglu Kazimov was an Internal Troops Major general and a Hero of the Soviet Union. Kazimov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union on 16 October 1943 for his leadership of an artillery battalion during the Battle of the Dnieper. In a twelve-day period during the battle, his battalion's guns were reported to have killed up to 180 German soldiers and destroyed eleven tanks. Postwar, Kazimov served in the Internal Troops and became Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Azerbaijan SSR. Kazimov and Minister of Internal Affairs Arif Heydarov were shot by an officer of the Shusha prison. Kazimov was assassinated on 2 July.
Mirza Dovlet oglu Valiyev was an Azerbaijani Red Army senior sergeant and a Hero of the Soviet Union. Valiyev was posthumously awarded the title for his actions in the Budapest Offensive. Commanding a 45mm anti-tank gun, he reportedly destroyed a number of German tanks after his crew was killed, and was himself killed. On 24 March 1945 Valiyev was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
