In 2004, a total of 29 albums reached the #1 spot on the Billboard 200. R&B singer Usher's Confessions is the best-selling album of 2004, accumulating under eight million copies by the end of the year. [2] The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with sales of 1.096 million copies in the United States, breaking the record for the best opening sales week by an R&B act. Confessions gave Usher his first chart topper since he began releasing albums in the 1990s. [3] Singer Norah Jones' Feels Like Home sold 3.8 million units, ranking as the second best-selling album of 2004. [2] Feels Like Home is noted for its debut sales figure of 1.02 million, the second highest in a week by a female artist, behind singer Britney Spears' Oops!... I Did It Again which debuted with 1.32 million in 2000. [4]

N.E.R.D. is an American hip hop and rock band, formed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 1999. The Neptunes were signed by Teddy Riley to Virgin. After producing songs for several artists throughout the late 1990s, the duo formed the band with Shay Haley as a side project of The Neptunes in 1999. N.E.R.D.'s debut album, In Search Of..., sold 603,000 copies in the United States and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It was also awarded the second annual Shortlist Music Prize. The band's second album, Fly or Die, sold 412,000 copies in the United States, but shipped at least 500,000 units, certifying it Gold.

Young Gunz is an American hip hop duo from Philadelphia, composed of rappers Young Chris and Neef Buck. The group is part of Beanie Sigel's State Property collective and were signed to Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records. Young Gunz' 2003 debut single, "Can't Stop, Won't Stop", reached the top 15 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Neptunes Present... Clones is a compilation album produced and released by American production and songwriting duo The Neptunes. It was released on August 19, 2003 and has been certified Gold by the RIAA. The album featured six singles; "Frontin'" by Pharrell Williams, "Popular Thug" by Kelis, "Light Your Ass on Fire" by Busta Rhymes, “Rock ‘n’ Roll” by Fam-Lay, "Hot Damn" by Clipse and "It Blows My Mind" by Snoop Dogg.

Strange Music is an American independent record label founded by Tech N9ne and Travis O'Guin in 1999, specializing in hip hop music. It is currently distributed through Fontana Distribution.
