Published by Billboard magazine, the data are compiled by Nielsen SoundScan based collectively on each single's weekly physical and digital sales, and airplay. In 2007, 17 singles reached the top spot on the chart. [2] An 18th single, Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable", began a run at the top in 2006 which continued into 2007. [3] [ failed verification ]
In 2007, eight acts achieved their first US number-one single, either as a lead artist or featured guest: Mims, Avril Lavigne, Maroon 5, T-Pain, Yung Joc, Plain White T's, Sean Kingston, and Soulja Boy Tell 'Em. Producer Timbaland earned his first number-one single as lead artist with "Give It to Me"; he had previously appeared as featured guest on singer Nelly Furtado's number-one single "Promiscuous". T-Pain, Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado and Fergie each earned two number-one singles, either as a lead artist or featured guest. [2]
Three number-one singles tied for the longest run on the chart in 2007: Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable", Rihanna's "Umbrella", and Soulja Boy Tell 'Em's "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" all topped the chart for seven weeks; the last of these was non-consecutive. However, "Irreplaceable", which started its peak position in three issues the previous year, is credited to by Billboard magazine as 2006's longest-running single. [3] [4] To this effect, "Umbrella" and "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" are the longest-running singles of 2007. [2] Other singles with extended chart runs include singer Alicia Keys' "No One" which stayed at number one for five straight weeks. [2]
"Irreplaceable" is the best-performing single of the calendar year, topping the Year-End Hot 100 singles of 2007 for seven consecutive weeks. [5] Band Maroon 5's "Makes Me Wonder" is noted for its jump from 64th to 1st place on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the largest leap of 2007. [6] "Umbrella", which occupied the top slot for seven of summer's thirteen weeks, has been credited by the music press as 2007's Song of the Summer. [7] [8] [9]

American singer Beyoncé has released seven studio albums, five live albums, three compilation albums, five EPs, one soundtrack album, two karaoke albums, and 83 singles. To date, Beyoncé has sold over 200 million records worldwide as a solo artist, and a further 60 million as part of Destiny's Child, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Billboard ranked her as the 37th greatest artist of all time.
The Dutchess is the debut solo studio album by American singer and rapper Fergie. It was released on September 13, 2006, through A&M Records and the will.i.am Music Group as her first solo album. The album was recorded between The Black Eyed Peas' tour in 2005, and the songs were written throughout the last eight years that preceded its release. While developing the album, Fergie wanted to create an autobiographical album that would be more intimate between her and the listener. By doing so, the album experiments with different music genres, including pop, hip hop, R&B, reggae, punk rock and soul. Lyrically, The Dutchess has themes about love and critics, while also dealing with her drug abuse and addiction.
"Irreplaceable" is a song by American singer Beyoncé for her second studio album, B'Day (2006). The song was written by Shaffer "Ne-Yo" Smith, Tor Erik Hermansen, Mikkel S. Eriksen, Espen Lind, Amund Bjørklund, Beyoncé and produced by Stargate and Beyoncé. "Irreplaceable" was originally a country record; it was re-arranged as a mid-tempo ballad with pop and R&B influences by modifying the vocal arrangements and instrumentation. During the production and recording sessions, Beyoncé and Ne-Yo wanted to create a record which people of either gender could relate to. The song's lyrics are about the breakdown of a relationship with an unfaithful man and the song contains a message about female empowerment.
"On the Hotline" is a 2006 R&B and rap song by American quartet Pretty Ricky. It is the first single released for their second album Late Night Special, released in January 2007. The single first premiered on BET's Access Granted on November 8, 2006.
"Phantom Limb" is a song by American indie rock band The Shins, and is the fourth track on their third album Wincing the Night Away. The song was also released as the first single from that album in the United States on November 14, 2006 as a digital download and a week later on CD. On January 22, 2007, "Phantom Limb" was released as a single in the United Kingdom. This song was #75 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.
