The Billboard Hot 100 is a chart that ranks the best-performing singles of the United States. Its data, published by Billboard magazine and compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, is based collectively on each single's weekly physical and digital sales, as well as airplay and streaming.

Contents

During 2014, nine singles reached number one on the Hot 100; a tenth single, "The Monster" by Eminem featuring Rihanna, began its run at number one in December 2013. [2] Of those ten number-one singles, four were collaborations. In total, thirteen acts topped the chart as either lead or featured artists, with six—Juicy J, John Legend, Iggy Azalea, Charli XCX, Magic! and Meghan Trainor—achieving their first Hot 100 number-one single. Pharrell Williams' "Happy" was the longest-running number-one of the year, leading the chart for ten weeks; it subsequently topped the Billboard Year-End Hot 100. [1]

In May, Legend's "All of Me" reached number one in its thirtieth week on the Hot 100, earning the distinction of the third-longest ascent to number one after Los del Río's "Macarena" and Lonestar's "Amazed". [3] The song also became the third number-one to feature only piano and vocals, following Adele's "Someone like You" and Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man". [3] Azalea became the fourth solo female rapper to top the chart when "Fancy" reached number one in June, a feat previously achieved only by Lauryn Hill, Lil' Kim and Shawnna. [4] In its sixth of seven weeks on top, "Fancy" became the longest-reigning single by a female rapper on the chart. [5]

Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" reached number one in November, ending the run of Swift's own "Shake It Off". [6] In doing so, Swift became the first female artist in the history of the Hot 100, and tenth act overall, to replace herself at the top of the chart. [6] With "Shake It Off" and "Blank Space", Swift was also the only artist to notch multiple number-ones in 2014. [6]

2014 was also the first year in 18 years to have all of its number-one singles that topped the chart that year enter the decade-end top 100 in the 2010s, after all of the number-one songs from 1996 made the decade-end top 100 of the 1990s. (The Monster did not make the decade-end top 100, but started its peak position in 2013.) [7] [8]

The chart represents one of the three components, along with airplay and sales, that determine the chart positions of songs on the Billboard Hot 100, which ranks the most popular songs in the United States.

"Fancy" is a song by Australian rapper Iggy Azalea featuring British singer Charli XCX, taken from the former's debut studio album, The New Classic (2014). It was released on 17 February 2014 by Def Jam Recordings as the fourth single from the album. "Fancy" was described as an electro-hop, electropop, and pop rap song. It was written by Azalea and XCX, composed and produced by production team the Invisible Men, alongside additional producers the Arcade. It was leaked under the title "Leave It" in December 2013.

The song was released on 24 October 2014 as the lead single from the reissue of Azalea's debut studio album The New Classic (2014), titled Reclassified (2014). An initial live preview of the song in September 2014 resulted in widespread media speculation that it featured XCX as the sequel to "Fancy", XCX's previous collaboration with Azalea. However, it was later revealed that XCX wrote the track's hook for MØ, who Azalea discovered on YouTube. A hip hop and trap song, "Beg for It" contains a percolating, booming stark beat and solicits a sinuous, minimalist feel. Its lyrical content comprises themes of girl power and prominently figures the phrase "pussy power".

<i>Reclassified</i> Reissue of debut album by Iggy Azalea

Reclassified is the reissue of Australian rapper Iggy Azalea's debut studio album, The New Classic (2014). It was released internationally on 21 November 2014 by Virgin EMI Records, and in the United States on 24 November 2014 by Def Jam Recordings. Released seven months after its parent album, Reclassified featured five newly recorded songs.

The 2015 Billboard Music Awards ceremony was held on May 17, 2015, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It was aired live on ABC. The show was hosted by Ludacris and Chrissy Teigen.
