The Sisters of Mercy is a religious institute for women in the Roman Catholic Church. It was founded in 1831 in Dublin, Ireland, by Catherine McAuley. As of 2019, the institute has about 6200 sisters worldwide, organized into a number of independent congregations. They also started many education and health care facilities around the world.
Mount Carmel College is an independent Roman Catholic co-educational and single-sex primary and secondary day school for girls, located in Sandy Bay, a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It was established in 1942 by the Sisters of Charity. The school currently caters for approximately 540 students from Year K to Year 10. Boys are enrolled from Year K to Year 2, and girls from Year K to Year 10.
The Alliance of Girls' Schools Australasia is a non-profit organisation that promotes the education of girls in single-sex girls' schools, and promotes the image of, and support the development of, girls' schools in Australasia.
V. Balan, popularly known as Artist V. Balan, was a sculptor and painter from India. He was born the son of Chellamma and Venketachelam Pillai in the small temple town of Perumbavoor, Kerala. In 1962 he earned a Diploma from the Cochin School of Art. Immediately after his studies, he started teaching at the same school. In 1970 he moved to Chennai as a freelance artist.
