List of Doncaster Rovers F.C. managers

Last updated

Below is a list of all Doncaster Rovers managers that have taken the reins since the appointment of Billy Calder in 1920. [1] In the 41 years prior to Calder, the team was selected by club committee, a standard practice by football clubs at the time. After Brian Flynn was appointed Director of Football, Paul Dickov became the club's 40th full-time manager.

David Mark Penney is an English football manager and former player. Born in Wakefield, West Riding of Yorkshire, Penney entered professional football at the relatively late age of 21. He had been working as a bricklayer and playing for nothing at Pontefract Collieries for five years before he was spotted by Derby County scout Ron Jukes, who recommended him to manager Arthur Cox. He was offered a contract at the then Third Division club and they climbed two divisions before he left for Oxford United for £175,000. He then went on to Wales, where he played for Swansea City and Cardiff City, latterly signing for Doncaster Rovers in 1998. He played as a midfielder.

Brian Flynn is a Welsh former footballer and manager. As a player, he was a Welsh international, who played as a midfielder.

During the 1997–98 English football season, Doncaster Rovers competed in the Football League Third Division. Doncaster had an awful season finishing bottom of the table and being relegated to the Football Conference. They lost 34 matches, setting a new league record.

William Calder was a Scottish footballer who played as a forward for Sheffield United, Gainsborough Trinity, Barnsley St. Peter's and Doncaster Rovers.

The 2016–17 season was Doncaster Rovers's 138th season in their existence, 14th consecutive season in the Football League and first back in League Two following relegation last season. Along with League Two, the club also participated in the FA Cup, League Cup and League Trophy.
