The Greater Western Sydney Giants joined the Australian Football League (AFL) in 2012. Greater Western Sydney's first game was played against the Sydney Swans at ANZ Stadium in Sydney, New South Wales on 24 March 2012. Greater Western Sydney played in their first AFL finals series in 2016, making the preliminary final.

Joel Patfull is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Brisbane Lions and the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was also listed with the Port Adelaide Football Club from 2003 to 2004, but he did not play a senior match.
Sam Jacobs is a former professional Australian rules football player who played for the Greater Western Sydney Giants, Adelaide Crows and Carlton Blues in the Australian Football League (AFL). Originally from Woodville-West Torrens in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), Jacobs was selected by Carlton with pick 1 in the 2007 Rookie Draft. He was traded to Adelaide following the 2010 season. After the 2019 season Jacobs was again traded from Adelaide to Greater Western Sydney Giants. After a Covid affected 2020, Jacobs retired after 14 AFL Seasons.

The Greater Western Sydney Giants are a professional Australian rules football team based in Sydney Olympic Park which represents the Greater Western Sydney region of New South Wales.
Tom Scully is a former professional Australian rules footballer. He played for the Melbourne Football Club, Greater Western Sydney Giants, and Hawthorn Football Club. A star midfielder at junior level, Scully was originally selected by Melbourne with the first overall draft pick of the 2009 AFL draft. However at the conclusion of his initial two-year contract with Melbourne, he accepted the opportunity to join the newly established GWS Giants in 2012 on a six-year deal. In October 2018, Scully was traded to Hawthorn for the 2019 season.
Tendai Mzungu is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Fremantle Football Club and Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). Mzungu represented the Perth Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) before being recruited to Fremantle at the end of the 2010 season, and made his debut for the club the following season.

Jonathan Giles is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Greater Western Sydney Giants, Essendon Football Club and West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was listed with the Port Adelaide Football Club from 2006 to 2009, but did not play a senior game for the club. He returned to the AFL with expansion club Greater Western Sydney, making his debut in round 1 of the 2012 season. Giles moved on to Essendon for the 2015 season, and then spent two years with West Coast before retiring due to a degenerative knee condition. In total, he played 63 AFL games.
Curtly Hampton is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was originally recruited by incoming AFL club Greater Western Sydney with one of their Northern Territory zone selections in 2010. He was traded to Adelaide at the end of 2015, after 51 matches in four AFL seasons for Greater Western Sydney. Hampton is originally from Alice Springs, and is the son of former politician Karl Hampton.
Jeremy Cameron is a professional footballer with the Geelong Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Greater Western Sydney Giants from 2010 to 2020. Cameron has kicked the most goals (427) for Greater Western Sydney, and led the club's goalkicking in all nine of his seasons at the club, with his 67 goals in the 2019 home-and-away season earning him the Coleman Medal. He is also a four time All-Australian and won the Kevin Sheedy Medal in 2013. Cameron won his first premiership in 2022 with Geelong.
Toby Greene is a professional Australian rules footballer and the captain of the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited by the Greater Western Sydney Giants with the 11th overall selection in the 2011 national draft.
Adam Treloar is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Greater Western Sydney Giants from 2012 to 2015 and the Collingwood Football Club from 2016 to 2020. Treloar was selected in the 2024 All-Australian team and won the Anzac Medal in 2018 and Neale Daniher Trophy in 2019. He received a nomination for the 2012 AFL Rising Star award in round 18 of the 2012 season.
Sam Darley is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Greater Western Sydney Giants and Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL He was one of the Greater Western Sydney's. Darley made his debut in round 8, 2012, against Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.
Samuel Frost is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). A utility, 1.95 metres tall and weighing 94 kilograms (207 lb), Frost has the ability to play as either a forward or defender, and is capable of also playing in the ruck. He entered top-level football early when he played as a bottom-aged player for the Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup. His final year as a junior saw him play in both the winning grand final for Sandringham and the winning final for Vic Metro in the 2011 AFL Under 18 Championships. He was recruited by the Greater Western Sydney Giants with the first selection in the 2012 rookie draft and made his debut during the 2012 season. After three seasons with Greater Western Sydney and twenty-one matches in total, he was traded to the Melbourne Football Club during the 2014 trade period. On 11 October 2019 he was traded to Hawthorn.
Tim Golds is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was also listed with the Collingwood Football Club in 2016, but did not play a senior match. He was recruited by the Greater Western Sydney Giants as an underage selection at the age of 17. Golds made his debut for the Giants in round 20, 2012, against Gold Coast at Carrara Stadium. He was delisted by the Giants in October 2015.
Zachary Williams is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). A utility, 1.85 metres tall and weighing 84 kilograms, Williams also plays as a defender and mid-fielder. Williams previously represented the Greater Western Sydney Football Club, playing 113 games over eight seasons from 2013 to 2020. He was recruited by Greater Western Sydney as the 54th pick in the 2012 AFL Rookie Draft, making his debut in round five of the 2013 AFL season. Williams earned a nomination for the 2013 AFL Rising Star award and has played the 14th most games for Greater Western Sydney Club. At the end of the 2020 season, Williams signed with Carlton as a restricted free agent.
Jake Stringer is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Western Bulldogs from 2013 to 2017 and for the Essendon Football Club from 2018 to 2024. Stringer was selected in the All-Australian team in 2015 and won an AFL premiership with the Bulldogs in 2016, the club's first in 62 years. He has also led his clubs' goalkicking on six occasions.

She served as Greater Western Sydney captain from 2020 to 2023, and is Greater Western Sydney's games record holder with 65 games.
Rebecca Privitelli is an Australian rules footballer who plays for Sydney in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She previously played for Carlton and for the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
