MC Alger is an Algerian sports club based in Algiers which is best known for its professional association football team. They played their first match in 1921. On August 8, 2021, the president of the republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune has announced that the management of the new stadium will be for MC Alger. As he recalled the founding of the Club on August 7, 1921, by the late Abderrahmane Aouf, and returned to the team's obstacle course and its stoppage before and during the Algerian war. [12] On July 3, 2024, Ali La Pointe Stadium in Douera was officially inaugurated by the president of the republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The stadium should host MC Alger matches from the start of the 2024–25 season. [13]
Union Sportive de la Médina d'Alger ; known as USM Alger or simply USMA for short, is a football club based in the inner suburbs of Algiers. The club was founded in 1937 and its colours are red and black. Their home stadium, Omar Hamadi Stadium, has a capacity of 10,000 spectators. The club is currently playing in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1.
The Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1, known as Championnat National de Première Division or Ligue 1 for short, and formerly known as the Championnat National 1, is the Algerian professional league for association football clubs. It is the country's primary football competition and serves as the top division of the Algerian football league system. Administered by the Ligue de Football Professionnel, it is contested by 16 clubs, with the two lowest-placed teams at the end of each season being relegated to the Ligue 2 and replaced by the top two teams in that division. In 2009 it was known as Championnat d'Algérie D1 Nedjma and from 2010 to 2014, it was known as Ligue Professionnelle 1 Nedjma as it is sponsored by Kuwaiti telecommunications company Nedjma. The 2014–15 Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 was the 53rd season of the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 since its establishment in 1962. A total of 16 teams contested the league, with USM Alger as the defending champions. Following the death of Albert Ebossé Bodjongo, the Algerian Football Federation suspended all football indefinitely. The league resumed on Week 3 starting 12 September 2014, with all matches on that week were preceded with a minute silence in memory of Ebossé.

In the 2013–14 season, MC Alger competed in Ligue 1 for the 43rd season, as well as the Algerian Cup. It was their 11th consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football. They remained in Ligue 1, and went on to win the Algerian Cup. Because of the events of the Algerian Cup final last season club president Omar Gharib was given a life ban, Faouzi Chaouchi and Réda Babouche two years and coach Djamel Menad one year.
In the 2018–19 season, the Algerian football club JS Saoura competed in Ligue 1 for the seventh season in a row. The club won 13 out of 30 league games and finished 4th out of 16 teams, resulting in qualification for the 2019–20 Arab Club Champions Cup. The club also took part in the Algerian Cup, but were knocked out by IB Lakhdaria in their first match, and the CAF Champions League, where they reached the group stage. The midfielder Adel Bouchiba had the most appearances for the season, and top goalscorer was Mohamed El Amine Hammia. The club's head coach at the start of the season was Nabil Neghiz; he was replaced by Karim Zaoui in January 2019.

The 2024–25 season, is MC Alger's 56th season and the club's 21st consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football. In addition to the domestic league, MC Alger are participating in the Algerian Cup, Super Cup and the Champions League. On June 27, 2024 The federal office approved the calendar for the 2024–25 Ligue 1 season with the aim of ending on May 31, 2025. The first round is scheduled for September 14, this delay is motivated both by an extended end of the 2023–24 season but also by the holding of early presidential elections which will take place on September 7, 2024. However, the Ligue de Football Professionnel decided to postpone the start of the Ligue 1 by a week, on September 21.
