The Swedish nobility has historically been a legally and/or socially privileged class in Sweden, and part of the so-called frälse. The archaic term for nobility, frälse, also included the clergy, a classification defined by tax exemptions and representation in the diet. Today the nobility does not maintain its former legal privileges although family names, titles and coats of arms are still protected. The Swedish nobility consists of both "introduced" and "unintroduced" nobility, where the latter has not been formally "introduced" at the House of Nobility (Riddarhuset). The House of Nobility still maintains a fee for male members over the age of 18 for upkeep on pertinent buildings in Stockholm.
Lantmarskalk, was the title of one of the speakers of the Swedish Riksdag of the Estates, from 1627 to 1866 and of the Diet of Grand Duchy of Finland from 1809 to 1906. The Lantmarskalk was appointed by the Estate of the Nobles and also served as its speaker (talman). The Lantmarskalk should not be confused with the Riksmarsk or the Riksmarskalk, which were Great Officers of the Realm and royal appointees.
The Lord High Constable was a prominent and influential office in Sweden, from the 13th century until 1676, excluding periods when the office was out of use. The office holder was a member of the Swedish Privy Council and, from 1630 and on, the head of the Swedish Council of War. From 1634, the Lord High Constable was one of five Great Officers of the Realm.
Carlsson is a Swedish patronymic surname meaning "son of Carl" or "Carl’s son". Cognates include Carlson and Karlsson. The parallel Danish-Norwegian forms are Karlsen and Carlsen.
The creation and granting of counties and baronies in Finland began with the coronation of King Eric XIV in 1561 and continued through Great Reductions in the latter half of the 17th century.
The Lord of the Realm was a title of honour introduced by Gustavus III, King of Sweden shortly after his coup and the newly passed constitution. The title was granted by the King and was first received by Frederick William, Prince von Hessenstein on 15 January 1773 by letter. One of the most famous title holders was Hans Axel, Count von Fersen, the supposed lover and confidant of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France.
Margareta Abrahamsdotter Brahe was a Swedish aristocrat and court official, Landgravine of Hesse-Homburg by marriage to Frederick II, Landgrave of Hesse-Homburg. She aroused a lot of attention with her marriages, which were considered scandalous.
Stall-Erik och snapphanarna is a Swedish film project directed by and starring Anders Olofsson. The narrative is set between 1658 and the early 18th century and tells the story of the snapphanar, a pro-Danish guerrilla movement that fought against Sweden in the 17th century. Olofsson, an amateur filmmaker who works as a cleaner by day, began to shoot the film in 1996. His ability to recruit many established actors, as well as the long production process, has received publicity in several regional and national newspapers. The film was set to be finished in 2020. However, in early 2020, Olofsson set a goal to involve 100 celebrities in the film, and thus revised his estimated completion time to 2025.
The Wachtmeister family is a Swedish noble family from Livonia, who immigrated to Sweden in the 16th century. The name Wachtmeister is German for 'sergeant'.
Gustaf Wasa is a 1928 Swedish silent historical epic film directed by John W. Brunius and starring Gösta Ekman, Edvin Adolphson and John Ericsson. It is based on the life of the sixteenth century Swedish king Gustav I of Sweden. It was released in two parts, premiering a week apart.
Teacher's First Born is a 1950 Swedish comedy film directed by Schamyl Bauman and starring Sickan Carlsson, Edvin Adolphson and Viveca Serlachius. It was shot at the Centrumateljéerna Studios in Stockholm. The film's sets were designed by the art director Bibi Lindström.
