USM Alger is an Algerian sports club based in Algiers which is best known for its professional association football team. They played their first match in 1937, but only won their first trophy in 1963, to become the first Algerian champions after independent.
USM Alger are one of the most successful clubs in Algeria, having domestically won the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 7 times, the Algerian Cup 8 times and the Algerian Super Cup 2 times. Internationally, USM Alger has won the UAFA Club Championship once, winning the last edition in 2013. The club also reached the final match of the 2015 CAF Champions League but he lost to TP Mazembe.

The club was founded in 1937 and its colours are red and black. Their home stadium, Omar Hamadi Stadium, has a capacity of 10,000 spectators. The club is currently playing in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1.

The 2019–20 Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 was the 58th season of the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 since its establishment in 1962. A total of 16 teams contested the league. The Ligue Professionnelle 1 kicked off on August 15, 2019, this time without an official sponsorship for the first time since 2008–09, Mobilis ATM did nothing to renew the contract. On September 17, at the Extraordinary General Assembly of Algerian Football Federation, it unanimously endorses the change of the competition system by increasing the number of clubs from 16 to 18, as for the second division to 32 clubs from two groups Central East and Central West from 16 clubs also became the number of professional clubs 18 instead of 32 starting from the season 2020–21. On September 30, at the monthly statutory meeting held in Ouargla. The fixture between CR Belouizdad and USM Alger is a local derby in Algiers, Algeria and a fierce rivalry. The derby does not have a common name. From the first meetings in the 1960s, a sport rivalry settled between the two clubs. It slowly fades in the next two decades before being revived in the late 1990s and early twenty-first century.
