Many significant companies are based in Nashville, Tennessee, and its surrounding communities in the Nashville metropolitan area. [1] Five of the companies, HCA Healthcare, Dollar General, Community Health Systems, Delek US Holdings, and Tractor Supply, were members of the Fortune 500 in 2020, ranking 65th, 112th, 241st, 342nd, and 380th respectively. It announced on December 8, 2010, that it would focus on its liquor business, and spin off or sell other parts of the company including home furnishings, hardware and golf products. The company sold its Titleist and FootJoy product lines to Fila. On October 3, 2011, it split the remainder of its business into two publicly traded companies: Fortune Brands Home & Security and Beam Inc.. On January 13, 2014, Suntory announced it would buy Beam Inc. for about $13.6 billion. The acquisition was completed on April 30, 2014, for about $16 billion and Beam became a subsidiary of Suntory named Beam Suntory, Suntory Global Spirits since 2024.

Ingram Content Group is an American service provider to the book publishing industry, based in La Vergne, Tennessee. It is a subsidiary of Ingram Industries.

Ascent Capital Group, Inc. was a publicly traded holding company whose primary subsidiary was Monitronics. Ascent Media was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Discovery Holding Company (DHC). DHC spun off Ascent Media as an independent, public company on September 17, 2008.

The name also refers to a company founded in 2007 which subsequently became part of the current conglomerate. The company operates the largest financial and administrative information exchange in the United States.
