Instrumental music
Symphonies
All of Michael Haydn's symphonies have at least 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 horns and strings (first and second violins, violas and basses, but no cellos). Some symphonies add more instruments, such as trumpets and timpani in some of the C major symphonies. They are usually either in three or four movements. Continuo is explicitly called for only in the earlier works, and the modern editions usually follow the old practice of putting the bassoons, basses and the left hand of the continuo on a single staff below the violas' staff.
Many of Michael Haydn's symphonies were at first attributed to Joseph Haydn. Only one of them was first attributed to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as his Symphony No. 37 (K. 444).

Duo sonatas
Hieronymus Graf von Colloredo commissioned Haydn to write six duos for violin and viola. Haydn fell ill after completing the fourth, so he asked Mozart to write the other two (K. 423 and K. 424). The set of six was presented as all Haydn's, and Colloredo was unable to "detect in them Mozart's obvious workmanship." [3]

Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber was a Bohemian-Austrian composer and violinist. Biber worked in Graz and Kroměříž before he illegally left his employer, Prince-Bishop Karl Liechtenstein-Kastelkorn, and settled in Salzburg. He remained there for the rest of his life, publishing much of his music but apparently seldom, if ever, giving concert tours.
Johann Friedrich Fasch was a German violinist and composer. Much of his music is in the Baroque-Classical transitional style known as galant.
Joseph Leopold Eybler was an Austrian composer and contemporary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
František Xaver Dušek ; 8 December 1731 – 12 February 1799) was a Czech composer and one of the most important harpsichordists and pianists of his time.
Catholic Marian music shares a trait with some other forms of Christian music in adding another emotional dimension to the process of veneration and in being used in various Marian ceremonies and feasts. Marian music is now an inherent element in many aspects of the veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Catholic Mariology.
The Perger-Verzeichnis is a thematic-chronological catalogue of instrumental compositions by Michael Haydn, compiled by Lothar Perger in 1907. Like Ludwig von Köchel's catalog of Mozart's compositions, Perger's catalog uses a single range of numbers, from 1 to 136, but like Hoboken's catalog of Joseph Haydn's music, groups the pieces first into categories and then sorts them chronologically.
Michael Haydn wrote the Missa pro defuncto Archiepiscopo Sigismondo, or more generally Missa pro Defunctis, Klafsky I:8, MH 155, following the death of the Count Archbishop Sigismund von Schrattenbach in Salzburg in December 1771. Haydn completed the Requiem before the year was over, signing it "S[oli] D[eo] H[onor] et G[loria.] Salisburgi 31 Dicembre 1771." At the beginning of that year, his daughter Aloisia Josefa died. Historians believe "his own personal bereavement" motivated the composition. Contemporary materials which have survived to the present day include the autograph score found in Berlin, a set of copied parts with many corrections in Haydn's hand in Salzburg and another set at the Esterházy castle in Eisenstadt, and a score prepared by the Salzburg copyist Nikolaus Lang found in Munich.
The Klafsky-Verzeichnis is a thematic-chronological catalogue of choral compositions by Michael Haydn, compiled by Anton Maria Klafsky in 1925.
The St. Francis Mass is the shorter name for the Missa sub titulo Sancti Francisci Seraphici composed by Michael Haydn. He completed it on 16 August 1803, apparently at the request of Empress Maria Theresa for a name day celebration.
