Petre Roman is a Romanian engineer and politician who was Prime Minister of Romania from 1989 to 1991, when his government was overthrown by the intervention of the miners led by Miron Cozma in the September 1991 Mineriad. Although regarded as the first Romanian prime minister since 1945 who was not a communist or communist sympathiser, he was a socialist. He later self-identified as a liberal. He was also the president of the Senate from 1996 to 1999 and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1999 to 2000.

General elections were held in Romania on 20 May 1990 to elect the President and members of Parliament. They were the first elections held after the overthrow of the communist regime six months earlier and the first free elections held in the country since 1937. It was also the first time the president had been directly elected, the position having been previously elected by the legislature since it was introduced in 1974.

The Romanian Socialist Party is a political party in Romania formed as the Socialist Alliance Party (PAS) in 2003. It developed out of the wing of the Socialist Party of Labour (PSM) that objected to the merger of PSM with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) in July 2003 and wanted the PSM to continue as a socialist party. The Romanian authorities did not recognize this group as part of PSM, and instead it took the name Socialist Alliance Party.

The unification of Moldova and Romania is a popular concept and hypothetical unification in the two countries that began during the Revolutions of 1989. The Romanian Revolution in 1989 and the independence of Moldova in 1991 further contributed to the development of a movement for the unification of the two Romanian-speaking countries. The question of reunification is recurrent in the public sphere of the two countries, often as a speculation, both as a goal and a danger. Though historically Romanian support for unification was high, a March 2022 survey following the Russian invasion of Ukraine indicated that only 11% of Romania's population supports an immediate union, while over 42% think it is not the right moment.

OTV was a Romanian TV channel owned by Dan Diaconescu, best known for its talk show, Dan Diaconescu Direct. Although it had a large audience, the channel had very often been criticized for its excessive use of sensationalism and tabloid journalism. On 22 January 2013, it was closed as its licence was retracted by the National Audiovisual Council of Romania for not having paid a large sum of money consisting of fines received in the past years, and also for having repeatedly violated Romanian audiovisual legislation.

Direct Digital TV was a Romanian free-to-air entertainment television channel founded in 2005 by Dan Diaconescu, as a sister channel of OTV, reairing most of the shows OTV did broadcast. In August 2009, it was relaunched as an entertainment television channel that was mostly aimed at children.

The Marin Anastasovici Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium in Giurgiu, Romania was opened during the 1970s, then was renovated between 2012 and 2014. The stadium was the homeground of Astra Giurgiu until they folded in 2022 and now serves as home ground of Dunărea Giurgiu. It has a seat capacity of 8,500.

Praetorium I (Copăceni) was a fort in the Roman province of Dacia near the present village of Copăceni, Racovița, Vâlcea, Romania. It was part of the Roman frontier system of the Limes Alutanus along the Olt (river). It was built in 138 and reinforced with two towers two years later.

Dansez pentru tine was a show produced and broadcast on television station Pro TV, presented and moderated by Ștefan Bănică, Jr. and Iulia Vântur, now broadcast on Antena 1. It was the most watched entertainment show in Romania in recent years as audiences. It was the Romanian version of the BBC's popular Dancing with the Stars, franchise which has been sold to more than 35 countries worldwide.

The Romanian Basketball Cup is an annual cup competition for Romanian basketball teams. The competition is played by first preliminary rounds, and then a Final Four; since 2016 the game to determine the third-placed team will not be played.

Presidential elections were held in Romania on 10 November 2019, with a second round held on 24 November 2019. They were the eighth presidential elections held in post-1989 Romania. Incumbent President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, first elected in 2014, was eligible for re-election. He subsequently defeated former Prime Minister and ex-leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Viorica Dăncilă in the second round of the election by a landslide, receiving 66% of the vote – the second-highest vote share on record in this type of elections after Ion Iliescu.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Freedom, Unity and Solidarity Party</span> Political party in Romania

The Party of Liberty, Unity and Solidarity was a pro-European, liberal political party established on 26 October 2018, whose president was Dacian Cioloș, former Prime Minister of Romania from 2015 until 2017, elected on 26 January 2019. The party had its origin in the Movement Romania Together (MRÎ), a project which they gave up due to the setting up delay in court. The party merged in 2021 with the Save Romania Union (USR) with which it has been in a political alliance called 2020 USR-PLUS Alliance from 2019 to 2021, then formally activating as a sole, unified party known as USR PLUS.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2024 Romanian presidential election</span>

Presidential elections will be held in Romania on 24 November 2024. A second round will be held on 8 December 2024 if no candidate receives an absolute majority of the vote. They will be the ninth presidential elections held in post-1989 Romania. As the Romanian Constitution allows a president to be re-elected only once, the incumbent, Klaus Iohannis, first elected in 2014 and then re-elected in 2019, is not eligible for re-election. His second term will formally end in December 2024.
