Visakhapatnam ([ʋiʃaːkʰapaʈːɳam]) (nicknamed Vizag[ citation needed ]) is the largest city, both in terms of area and population, in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the coast of Bay of Bengal in the north eastern region of the state. It is the administrative headquarters of Visakhapatnam district and also the "financial capital of Andhra Pradesh".[ citation needed ] Visakhapatnam is now emerging as one of the largest metropolises. It has numerous buildings, mainly 5 to 7 storeys, but only the buildings which have more than 7 floors are mentioned here.

Recently in the city a 35-floor building has been constructed, called Oxygen Towers. [1] LIC Building was once the major construction of Visakhapatnam. [2]

Visakhapatnam Metro is a planned rapid transit system for the city of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India. The system is proposed to reduce traffic congestion as well as providing a modern and efficient public transport system in the city which became the largest city and the main hub for economic activity of Andhra Pradesh after the state's bifurcation. It will be the only Indian city which will have a combination of both metro and tram. Once constructed it will be the world's largest metro prepared in a PPP model. Initially proposed for Metro Rail alignment for a length of 42.55 km in the city. Now, Government have planned to expand the Metro Rail system to cover more routes in the city as well as in the VMRDA area.

<i>Andhra Pradesh Express</i> Train in India

The 20805 / 20806 Andhra Pradesh Express is a daily Superfast Express train that connects the national capital of India, New Delhi, to the largest city of Andhra Pradesh, Visakhapatnam. The express is administered under Indian Railways's South Coast Railway Zone with the service numbers 20805 and 20806. The train service was first commissioned by then Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on 12 August 2015 as Andhra Pradesh AC Express. Later in the year 2020 Non-AC Sleeper Coaches were attached to this train which renamed this train as Andhra Pradesh Express. This train is named after the state Andhra Pradesh, as previously when Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states were combined, this train used to run from Hyderabad Deccan to New Delhi. When the Telangana state was bifurcated from Andhra Pradesh state, that train was renamed as Telangana Express and a new rake of LHB coach of Andhra Pradesh Express was started from Visakhapatnam.

Transport in Visakhapatnam is the network of roads, railways, rapid transit system in the largest city of Andhra Pradesh. The city of Visakhapatnam also serves as the central hub of transport and logistics on the East coast of India and hence it is called as City Of Destiny.

City Central Park also known as (VMRDA City Central Park) is an urban park in the city of Visakhapatnam. The park is located at the heart of the city. It covers an area of 22 acres (8.9 ha) and was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Nara Chandrababu Naidu on 15 September 2016. This park has the first musical fountain of Andhra Pradesh state. It comes under the maintenance and operated by Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

Biodiversity Park, Visakhapatnam, is a botanical garden, an ex situ conservation park, first of its kind in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. The park is located in the premises of the Rani Chandramani Devi Government Hospital. It extends over 3 acres (1.2 ha). Dolphin Nature Conservation Society (DNCS), Visakhapatnam, a registered, eco-friendly, non-government organization, has maintained it for 13 years and is now maintaining it in collaboration with the hospital and Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority. The park was inaugurated on 5 June 2002. This park has more than 2,000 species of plants. and has recorded visits by 60 species of birds and 105 species of butterflies. The park has become a "living laboratory" for education, awareness and research for students, and botanists, zoologists and researchers.

The Dolphin Nature Conservation Society (DNCS) is a registered voluntary environmental non-profit and non-governmental organization (NGO) located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is committed to the causes of nature conservation, environmental protection, research, education, and awareness. The society was founded on March 5, 2001, by Dr. Mantha Rama Murty and Dr. Mangathayi, who had previously launched several nature conservation programs in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Visakhapatnam. The organization's activities are intended to instill a love for nature and conservation among people, especially among the younger generation. Notable research, documentation, conservation, and awareness campaigns of the society have involved Olive-Ridley Sea Turtles, intertidal rocky shore fauna and flora of the Visakhapatnam coast, and butterflies of the Eastern Ghats. The society's flagship project is the development and maintenance of the Biodiversity Park in Visakhapatnam.

Diesel Locomotive Shed, Visakhapatnam (DLS/VSKP) was established on 1 May 1965 with a holding of 13 WDM 1 Locomotives to meet the traffic needs in transportation of mainly Iron Ore from Bailadilla Mines to Visakhapatnam Port trust. It is administered by the Waltair Railway division in the East Coast Railway zone.
