The 2007 Winter Deaflympics, officially known as the 16th Winter Deaflympics, is an international multi-sport event that was held from 3 to 10 February 2007 in Salt Lake City, United States.
The United States has been participating at the Deaflympics from 1935 and it is also currently placed first in the all time Deaflympics medal list. US has won more than 1000 medals, the only nation to do so in Deaflympics.
Spain competed at the inaugural edition of the Deaflympics in 1957. But they did not participate in a Deaflympics competition until 1973. Since then Spain has been regularly participating at the Deaflympics. Spain won its first Deaflympics medal way back in 1981.
Argentina first completed and won its first medal at the Deaflympics in 1965. Since then Argentina has been regularly participating at the Deaflympics. Argentina has never competed at the Winter Deaflympics.
Brazil competed at the Deaflympics for the first time in 1993. Since then Brazil has been regularly participating at the Deaflympics. Brazil won its first Deaflympics medal in 2009. Brazil has competed for the first time at Winter Deaflympics on the 2019 Winter Games at the Sondrio Province in Italy.
Turkey has been participating at the Deaflympics since 1961 and has earned a total of 119 medals.
France has been participating at the Deaflympics since 1924 and has earned a total of 268 medals.
Ireland has been participating at the Deaflympics since 1973 and has earned a total of 42 medals.
Austria has been participating at the Deaflympics since 1931 and has earned a total of 78 medals.
Denmark has been participating at the Deaflympics since 1931 and has earned a total of 139 medals.
Belgium has been participating at the Deaflympics since its inception in 1924 and has earned a total of 85 medals.
Hungary has been participating at the Deaflympics since its inception in 1924 and has earned a total of 132 medals.
Basketball was contested for both men and women in the 2017 Summer Deaflympics from July 19-July 29. Yaşar Doğu Sport Hall and Bahattin Ekinci Sports Hall which are located at Samsun, Turkey were the venues selected to host the basketball matches.
Mexico has been participating at the Deaflympics since making its debut way back in 1965. Mexico won its first Deaflympic medal in the 2001 Summer Deaflympics for Athletics. In the 2017 Summer Deaflympics, Mexico won its first ever gold medal in Deaflympics history for Judo.
Russia participated at the Deaflympics after making its debut in 1993, until it was banned in 2022. Russia is just behind United States for winning the most medals in Deaflympics history. In the 2017 Summer Deaflympics held in Turkey, Russia was the medal topper with a record haul of 199 medals. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) banned athletes from Russia from that year's Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, Brazil.
Kristina Dovydaitytė is a Lithuanian badminton player. She has competed at the Deaflympics in 2001, 2005 and 2009.
Estonia has been participating at the Deaflympics since 1993 and has earned a total of 32 medals.
The 2021 Summer Deaflympics, officially known as the 24th Summer Deaflympics, was the international multi-sport event held in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, as the main host city from 1 May to 15 May 2022. In addition to Caxias, there are events scheduled for the neighboring cities of Farroupilha and Flores da Cunha. On April 12, 2022, CISS has announced that due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian and Belarusian athletes were barred from competing in Caxias do Sul, and in the same press release it was also announced that the bowling tournament was scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during October 20–30, 2022.
