The County of Nairn is a historic county, registration county and lieutenancy area of Scotland. The county was used for local administration until the county council, based at the county town of Nairn, was abolished in 1975 under the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, the area becoming one of the eight districts of the two-tier Highland region. This arrangement ended in 1996 when the Highland council area was made a unitary authority.

The Glenturret Distillery is located two miles north west of Crieff in Perthshire, Scotland. on the banks of the Turret River. The distillery is hidden in the glen and its secluded location may have contributed to its early history as the site of several illicit bothy stills. The high hills to either side of the distillery were thought to act as lookout points for the smugglers. When Alfred Barnard visited the distillery he described the glen as “a perfect paradise to artists, who come in great numbers to transfer some of its transcendent beauties to canvas.” The distillery is located in the parish of Monzievaird and Strowan.

Situated on the border of Lowlands and Highlands, its products were generally classified as lowlands whisky. Auchentorlie Estate, along with a brewery call Littlemill, was purchased in 1750 by Archibal Buchanan from his brother Andrew Buchanan.
Cairntable Halt railway station was a railway station serving a rural district and the miners' row of forty-eight houses at the Cairntable Terraces, East Ayrshire, Scotland. The station was by opened as late as circa 1928 by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway on the Holehouse Junction to Rankinston line.

George Mills (1808–1881) was a 19th-century Scottish shipbuilder, journalist and novelist.
Alexander Gordon (1818–1895) was a Scottish brewer and philanthropist. He was born in Glen Girnock, Aberdeenshire and studied an apprenticeship in Dundee. Shortly after turning 18 Gordon was placed in charge of a brewery in Aberdeen and later worked at the Lochnagar distillery. He moved to London and founded the Messrs. Gordons Brewery in Islington in 1852. Gordon opened a second brewery in Peckham and grew wealthy before his retirement in 1891. Gordon donated money to improve Ballater, a village near to his birthplace. His donations enabled the erection of a church, two halls and the Polhollick bridge. Gordon had no children and after his death his estate paid to construct the Cambus O' May bridge.
