Liverpool Sound City is an annual music festival and industry conference held in Liverpool, England. It was founded in 2008 by Dave Pichilingi. Sound City was located in Liverpool City Centre venues, such as The Kazimier, The Zanzibar and the Liverpool Cathedral, until 2015 when it was relocated to Bramley-Moore Dock in Liverpool's historic docklands.

In 2015, the festival took place on Friday 22 May through Sunday 24 May, with headliners The Vaccines, The Flaming Lips and Belle and Sebastian [1] and several artists including, Everything Everything, Peace and The Cribs. [2] Previous artists included Florence and the Machine, The Maccabees, The xx, The Kooks and Ed Sheeran.

The Sound City conference is a two-day digital industry conference with keynotes, in conversations and workshop sessions from key digital industry figures. In 2015, the conference took place on Thursday 21 May - Friday 22 May in the Titanic Hotel at Stanley Dock. Speakers included Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, Ramones manager Danny Fields and Mark E. Smith of The Fall. [3]

Arts

Screenadelica is a large gig poster exhibition that has toured and exhibited across England, Europe and the world. It is essentially a 'pop up' gallery celebrating the art of the screen printed gig poster. The works include UK and international artists from the gig-poster 'scene'. These artists have full band and management support to design for The Pixies, DJ Shadow, Björk, The Cure, PJ Harvey, Brian Wilson, Kellis, Gogal Bordello and many more. The art works can be bought at an average price of £30 a piece. Screenadelica host a wide variety of styles promoting the bands that the artists love, inspired by the music they hear. [12]

Film

As part of the Liverpool Sound City arts expansion program, films, music videos and shots have been encouraged presenting and demonstrating throughout the years. These come from variety of venues including FACT, Camp&Furnace and Tabac. [3]

John Peel World Cup

Every year, the John Peel World Cup runs in conjunction with the Sound City festival. The five-a-side tournament stocks band members and music industry professionals into different teams. The funds that are acquired from the event go to the British Heart Foundation in memory of John Peel, the namesake of the tournament. [13]

Photography

In 2009, photographer Kevin Cummins discussed his portfolio at the festival. This portfolio played a part in the rise of both "Madchester" and "Britpop" and includes artists such as Joy Division, The Stone Roses, Manic Street Preachers, R.E.M., U2, Patti Smith, Marc Bolan, The Smiths, Oasis, Foo Fighters and Buzzcocks. [14] In 2012, music photographer Gered Mankowitz attended the event as well. Mankowitz has photographed some of the most famous musicians of the 20th century such as The Rolling Stones, Kate Bush and Jim Hendrix. Notable photographers who have attended the festival include Bill Harry, Mark McNulty, Kevin Cummins, and Ernie Paniccioli. Liverpool Sound also works with local universities and communities to provide photography students an opportunity to develop their skills, gain experience and expand their portfolios. [14]

Tickets

Liverpool Sound City tickets are in the form of wristbands. In order to get these wristbands, one must purchase a ticket on the official website and the ticket purchased will have information on collecting the wristbands. [15] [16]

The Dykeenies are a Scottish indie rock band from Cumbernauld, formed in 2005. The group consists of brothers Brian Henderson and Andrew Henderson, along with Steven Ramsay and John Kerr. Since their formation, they have released one studio album, Nothing Means Everything, accompanied by three singles. After a worldwide tour, the band began work on their second album, which was released in October 2011. They broke up in January 2012, before re-forming for two performances in 2017. The Dykeenies released their EP 'I Wanted To Show Her All The Beautiful Things in the World' on 11 May 2018. The title of the 2018 EP was taken from Bret Ellis-Easton's 'American Psycho'.

<i>Live from Abbey Road</i> British television series

Live from Abbey Road is a 12-part, one-hour performance series/documentary that began filming its first season during 2006 at Abbey Road Studios in London. Season 2 was filmed between 2007 and 2008, season 3 was filmed in 2009 and Season 4 was filmed in 2011. The series features a total of 128 musical artists to date -- usually two or three per show, performing up to five songs per session. The sessions are recorded without a live audience. Shot in HD video with the occasional use of 35 mm lenses, the producers have sought to record performances which "look like a movie and sound like a record".

The UK Festival Awards are awarded annually, with various categories for all aspects of festivals that have taken place in the UK, and one category for European festivals. The Awards were first established in 2004 by Steve Jenner and his team at Virtual Festivals.com. They are voted for by the public via the UK Festival Awards website. To ensure fairness, the votes are weighted to take into account the event capacity.

INmusic festival is Croatia's biggest international contemporary music open-air festival. The festival is held annually in late June in Zagreb and takes place on the Isle of Youth in the middle of Zagreb's Lake Jarun. The festival was started in 2006 and is usually held over three days. It includes several genre-specific stages with internationally renowned indie rock, heavy metal and electronica artists. In 2008 The Times included INmusic among the top 20 European summer festivals, and it made the CNN's 2013 list of 50 greatest summer music festivals in the world. NME has reported from the festival since 2015 and hailed the festival as "the hidden festival gem of Europe" as well as listing it among the world's top festival since 2017.

Bestival 2010 was the seventh installment of the Bestival, a boutique music festival held at Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight. The festival, organized by Rob and Josie Da Bank and their crew, was held over the weekend between 9 September and 12 September 2010. It was voted the best major UK festival in the UK festival awards. This is the first time it has won the major festival award, rather than the medium-sized festival award. Each year a fancy dress theme is announced; 2010 was the year of the fantastic and so festival goers dressed in fantasy outfits. The festival boasts its own radio station called Bestival Radio. The station was broadcast on-site, played music and kept listeners camping at the festival up-to-date on news and events over the weekend. The first acts were announced on 4 February.

North by Northeast is an annual music and arts festival held each June in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The festival's main focus is live music, particularly emerging talent. Acts that have had break out appearances at NXNE at small venues early in their careers include: Lizzo, Daniel Caesar (2016), Run the Jewels (2014), Lumineers (2012), Grimes (2011), Gary Clark Jr. (2007), The Arkells (2007), Feist (2004), Billy Talent (1999) and thousands more. Live at Leeds is a music festival that takes place across various venues in Leeds, England, on the weekend of the May Day bank holiday.
