Leonie Greiner (born 3 July 2002), known professionally as Loi, is a German singer. In 2017, she competed on the German reality talent show The Voice Kids where she reached the finale. Loi's 2022 single "Gold" received gold certifications in France and Poland, in addition to peaking at number two in the latter.
Leonie Greiner was born on 3 July 2002 in Mannheim, Germany. [2] When she was four, she was part of her school's choir. [3] Her stage name, which is a different spelling of lion, originates from her childhood nickname "Leonie Lionheart". [4] Loi plays the guitar and the piano and said that British singer-songwriter Adele "had a big influence on [her] during [her] childhood". [5] [6] In 2017, at 14, she took part on the fifth season of the German reality talent show The Voice Kids , where she made it to the finale. [7] Prior to her appearance on The Voice Kids, she took part in the German school competition Starke Schule with a song she wrote herself, finishing second nationwide. [6] Loi releases music through her record label Volksmusic. In 2021, she signed a distribution deal with Warner Music and began studies at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg. Her 2022 single "Gold" reached number two in Poland and received a gold certification from the Polish Society of the Phonographic Industry. [11] [12] [13] In France, the single reached number 101 on the French singles chart, while its French version featuring singer Robin was certified gold. [14] [15] During the summer of the same year, Loi was a supporting for fellow singer Zoe Wees's European tour. [16] On 9 June 2023, she was the opening act for singer Sarah Connor at music festival Loreley. [1] Loi embarked on her first concert tour titled the I Follow Tour in the autumn, which finished on 1 November. [17] [2] At the music award 1LIVE Krone, she received a nomination for Best Newcomer Act, while "Gold" was nominated for Best Song. "Loca" is a song by Dominican singer, El Cata. It achieved mainstream success by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, who recorded a cover taken from her ninth studio album, Sale el Sol (2010). It was released by Epic Records as the lead single from the album. The Spanish-language version features Dominican rapper El Cata, and was released on 10 September 2010, while the English-language version features British rapper Dizzee Rascal, and was released on 13 September 2010. It was written and produced by Shakira, with additional songwriting from Edward Bello, Armando Pérez, and Dylan Mills. The song is a Latin pop and merengue track that lyrically describes Shakira's eccentric infatuation with a man. In August 2014, a senior US district judge found "Loca" to have been indirectly plagiarised from "Loca con su Tiguere", a mid-1990s song composed by Dominican songwriter Ramon "Arias" Vasquez. The case was dismissed in August 2015 after it was found that Vasquez had fabricated the evidence he had presented in court.
"Taken by a Stranger" is a song recorded by German singer Lena for her second studio album Good News (2011), released as a CD single on 22 February 2011 by We Love Music. Gus Seyffert, Nicole Morier and Monica Birkenes wrote the song, while production was handled by Stefan Raab and Reinhard Schaub. Seyffert had originally penned the track for Birkenes to record, but her label rejected it and it was eventually given to Lena. Musically, "Taken by a Stranger" is a 1980s and grufti-influenced electropop song characterized by synthesizer sounds. Lyrically, it revolves around the connection between two strangers. While compared to the works of English band The Cure by one reviewer, other speculated lyrical themes were sadomasochism, psychosexual development, kidnapping and sexual fantasy.
