Lovekiller is the fifth studio album by Swedish singer and songwriter Darin Zanyar. It was released digitally on 16 August 2010 [1] and physically on 18 August in Sweden through Universal Music. The record is Darin's first album since parting with Sony Music after four years with the label and it became his fifth top ten album on the Swedish Album chart. The album includes the song You're Out of My Life, Darin's entry in Melodifestivalen 2010.

Background

In September 2009, Darin signed a new record deal with Universal Music Sweden after 4 years with Sony Music. His first release with Universal was a cover of Coldplay's Viva la Vida which Darin performed live at Idol on October 8 [2] the song was released digitally and peaked at number 1 on the Swedish singles chart. [3] On 3 November 2009, it was announced that Darin would be participating in the Melodifestivalen 2010, [4] [5] the Swedish show which determines the country's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Oslo, Norway. Darin entered with the mid-tempo ballad You're Out of My Life written by Tony Nilsson and Henrik Janson. [6] Darin came eventual 4th at the final on March 13. The song was later released physically, including the cover of Viva la Vida, and peaked at number three on the Swedish Single Chart. [7] On 27 March, Darin performed an acoustic version of the track Only You Can Save Me in Kungsträdgården, Stockholm as part of the Swedish Earth Hour concert. [8] On 1 June 2010 it was announced on the Universal Music Sweden website that Darin soon would release his single "Lovekiller" and his fifth studio album, his first with Universal, on 25 August 2010 and would feature the singles Viva la Vida and You're Out of My Life. [9] Darin began a 17 date Sommarturné (Summer Tour) in Sweden on 4 June 2010, starting in Karlshamn, [10] during which he performed songs from the new album as well as songs from his previous albums. In June 2010, Darin was asked by Swedish broadcaster SVT to record a written song, "Can't Stop Love", for the Royal Wedding of Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling. Darin performed the song on a rooftop in Stockholm during the live broadcast of the wedding on SVT. The song was released digitally on the day of the wedding, 19 June 2010. [11] [12] On 13 July 2010 a press release was published by Universal Music Sweden revealing the name, track listing and cover art for the new album and also that the album would be released earlier than originally planned on 18 August. [13] Also mentioned in the press release is the producers of the album, Tony Nilsson, Arnthor Birgisson, Henrik Jansson and Darin. On 13 July, the studio version of Lovekiller premiered on radio and on the Universal Music website, having only been heard live previously. [14]

Singles

  1. "Viva la Vida" is Darin's cover, of the Coldplay song, which was performed live on Idol in October 2009 and followed shortly after by a digital release which earned Darin his third number one single in Sweden. [15]
  2. "You're Out of My Life" was first heard publicly in full on 20 February 2010 when it was performed live in Heat 3 of Melodifestivalen 2010. It was released physically on 28 February and peaked at number three on the chart.
  3. "Can't Stop Love" is a single written by Darin and Tony Nilsson especially for the Royal Wedding of Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling. It was performed in Stockholm during SVT's live broadcast of the wedding on 19 June 2010 and released the same day digitally peaking at 13 in the singles chart. [16]
  4. "Lovekiller", the album's title track, was first heard performed live during Darin's Summer tour of Sweden with the studio version premiering on 13 July 2010, which was also the day of its digital release. The single debuted and peaked at number 6. [17]
  5. "Microphone" [18] was used in a promotional video for the 2010 season of Idol. The song was also performed live for the first time at Sommarkrysset on 14 August 2010. Due to its strong digital download upon the released of Darin's album Lovekiller, the song entered the Swedish Charts and peak at number 15.

Ola Svensson

Ola Nils Håkan Svensson in Lund, Skåne, professionally known simply as Brother Leo, is a Swedish artist and songwriter. Until 2014, he was best known by his mononym Ola. His career began on Swedish Idol in 2005; however since coming 8th, Ola has released four albums. Eleven of his releases have reached Top 5, with 6 making it to number one on the Swedish singles chart, attaining gold and platinum certification. Sarah Dawn Finer Swedish singer, songwriter and actress

Sarah Dawn Finer is a Swedish singer, songwriter and actress. Her father is of English heritage from the United Kingdom, her Jewish mother is from the United States, and she was born and raised in Sweden. As a student she attended the Adolf Fredrik's Music School, a high-profile song-and-chorus school in Stockholm, where she was also President of the students' union. E.M.D.

E.M.D. was a Swedish boyband consisting of Erik Segerstedt, Mattias Andréasson and Danny Saucedo. All three members had participated on the Swedish version of Idol, with Erik as a finalist and Danny at 6th place on Idol 2006. Mattias was eliminated as the fourth runner-up on Idol 2007.

Melodifestivalen 2010

Melodifestivalen 2010 was a Swedish song contest held between February and March 2010. It was the selection for the 50th song to represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest, and was the 49th edition of Melodifestivalen. Five semi-finals were held in the Swedish cities of Örnsköldsvik, Sandviken, Gothenburg and Malmö, with Örebro hosting the final Andra Chansen round.

Eddie Razaz born on 21 December 1988 in Stockholm, Sweden) is an Iranian-Swedish singer. He was a former participant of Swedish Idol 2009 and finished sixth. Eddie Razaz and Rabih Jaber, yet another Idol participant, became a duo pop boy band as REbound! in 2010 with a number of hits on the Swedish charts. After split-up of the band in April 2011, Eddie Razaz is continuing as a solo singer. In November 2012 he was signed to Warner Music Sweden. "You're Out of My Life" is a song recorded by Swedish singer Darin and was Darin's entry in Melodifestivalen 2010. The song was first performed in Deltävling 3 of Melodifestivalen in Göteborg on February 20, 2010 where Darin reached second place and progressed to the final on March 13 in Stockholm. The single was released on February 28, 2010. This is Darin's first physical single release since his departure from Sony Music.

Tony Nilsson is a Swedish singer-songwriter. He is signed to Peermusic. A prolific composer of songs, he has contributed to a string of hits by well-known Swedish artists. Many of his songs have featured in Melodifestivalen and in the Swedish Singles Chart. Nilsson lives with artist and fellow songwriter Mirja Breitholtz.

Microphone is a song by Darin Zanyar from his album Lovekiller. The song was not released as an official single but due to strong digital downloads of the song upon the release of Darin's album Lovekiller on August 18, 2010, the song entered on Swedish Charts at number 16 on the week of August 27, 2010. The song peaked at number 15 on the third week.

Robin Stjernberg

Robin James Olof Stjernberg is a Swedish pop singer. He represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 on home soil on 18 May 2013 with the song "You". Stjernberg started his career in the boyband What's Up!, and became a contestant in Idol 2011, placing as first runner up in the final. He participated in Eurovision Song Contest 2017 as the songwriter for the song I Can't Go On performed by Robin Bengtsson, which ended up in fifth place.

We Got the Power (Loreen song)

"We Got the Power" is a song by Swedish singer Loreen. The song was written by Ester Dean and Geoff Earley. It was released in Sweden as a digital download by Warner Music Sweden on May 15, 2013. She performed the song during the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. The song was included as the fourth overall single from the reissue of Loreen's debut studio album Heal.

Dance You Off

"Dance You Off" is a 2018 song by Swedish singer Benjamin Ingrosso. The song won Melodifestivalen 2018, and made it to the final from the first semifinal. It was released in February 2018. The song won Melodifestivalen and represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal. The song was later included on Ingrosso's debut album, Identification.
