The Lower West Side is a neighborhood in Buffalo, New York.

Geography

The Lower West Side is bounded on the north by Porter Avenue and the Upper West Side. On the east Allentown with its historic district which ends approximately at Plymouth Avenue. To the south is Niagara Square and the West Village, while west is the Niagara River and Interstate 190.

The main streets which run through the Lower West Side are Niagara Street (N-S) and Virginia Street (E-W). Part of the historic Frederick Law Olmsted Buffalo Parks & Parkway System is contained in the Lower West Side.

Although not an Olmsted Park, LaSalle Park is part of the Buffalo Parks System and is the largest park in the Lower West Side.

The Lower West Side was primarily a largely Italian-American neighborhood. In the last 50 years, the neighborhood has become a largely Hispanic area, although it has also received recent renovation and reinvestment from "urban pioneers" relocating in Buffalo.

The Niagara Scenic Parkway is a 16.4-mile (26.39 km) long north–south highway in western Niagara County, New York, in the United States. Its southern terminus is at the LaSalle Expressway on the east bank of the Niagara River in Niagara Falls. The northern terminus is at New York State Route 18 (NY 18) at Four Mile Creek State Park in Porter near Lake Ontario. Originally, the parkway was one continuous road; however, due to low usage, a portion of the parkway near Niagara Falls was removed, separating the parkway into two sections. Its northern terminus is at an intersection with NY 265 just south of North Tonawanda in Tonawanda.

Riverside Park is a historic park located in the Riverside neighborhood in Buffalo, New York. Located in northwest Buffalo, it is an individual park designed by the Olmsted Architectural Firm in 1898 after Frederick Law Olmsted's retirement. It is on a 22-acre (8.9 ha) site on a bluff overlooking the Niagara River. Riverside Park was designed for active recreation and periodic alterations have occurred as the community's recreation needs have changed. Parkside West Historic District United States historic place

Parkside West Historic District is a national historic district located at Buffalo in Erie County, New York. The district is architecturally and historically significant for its association with the 1876 Parks and Parkways Plan for the city of Buffalo developed by Frederick Law Olmsted in 1876. It consists of 137 contributing structures developed primarily from 1923 to 1940, as a middle class residential neighborhood. The district largely contains single-family dwellings, built in a variety of popular architectural styles, and located along the irregular and curvilinear street pattern developed by Olmsted. They include homes along Nottingham Terrace and Middlesex Road, and segments of Meadow Road, Lincoln Parkway, Delaware Avenue, and Amherst Street. The district is located to the north of Buffalo's Delaware Park.
