Lubnice is a village and municipality ( obec ) in Znojmo District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic.
Obec is the Czech and Slovak word for a municipality. The literal meaning of the word is "commune" or "community". It is the smallest administrative unit that is governed by elected representatives. Cities are also municipalities. The council is called "obecní zastupitelstvo/obecné zastupiteľstvo" or "zastupitelstvo města/mestské zastupiteľstvo" or "zastupitelstvo městyse", the office is called "obecní úřad/obecný úrad" or "úřad města/mestský úrad" or "úřad městyse". An obec can have its own flag and coat of arms and is composed of one or more cadastral areas. An obec can have several settlements or parts whether villages or hamlets.
Znojmo District is one of seven districts (okres) within South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. Its capital is the town of Znojmo.
The South Moravian Region is an administrative unit of the Czech Republic, located in the south-western part of its historical region of Moravia. Its capital is Brno, the 2nd largest city in the Czech Republic. The region has 1,169,000 inhabitants and the total area of 7,196.5 km². It is bordered by the South Bohemian Region (west), Vysočina Region (north-west), Pardubice Region (north), Olomouc Region, Zlín Region (east), Trenčín and Trnava Regions, Slovakia and Lower Austria, Austria (south).
The municipality covers an area of 7.6 square kilometres (2.9 sq mi), and has a population of 77 (as at 28 August 2006).
Lubnice lies approximately 33 kilometres (21 mi) west of Znojmo, 79 km (49 mi) west of Brno, and 154 km (96 mi) south-east of Prague.
