Luca Brasi are an Australian rock band formed in St Helens, Tasmania in 2009. The current line-up of the band features Thomas Busby on lead guitar, Nick Manuell on rhythm guitar, Danny Flood on drums, and Tyler Richardson on lead vocals and bass guitar. [1] To date, the group have released six studio albums: Extended Family (2011), By a Thread (2014), If This Is All We're Going to Be (2016), Stay (2018), Everything Is Tenuous (2021) and The World Don't Owe You Anything (2023). Stay became their first ARIA top 10. [2]
The band are currently signed to Cooking Vinyl Australia, and have toured with bands such as Alexisonfire, Violent Soho, Pup, You Me at Six, Turnover and Pianos Become the Teeth. [3] They have also performed at St Jerome's Laneway Festival, Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival. [4]
Luca Brasi have been recognised as a lasting influence on music in Tasmania. [5] Various Tasmanian musicians, including Maddy Jane, Kat Edwards, the Sleepyheads and the Tinderboxers have cited the band as mentors, with the former stating that "[they've] support[ed] their local scene through and through." They have also been credited with leading the way for other Tasmanian musicians in the industry, several of whom feel that they would otherwise feel "isolated" due to being separated from the larger industry in the mainland of Australia. Luca Brasi — so named after the character from The Godfather — formed in 2009 with Richardson, Busby, guitarist Mitchell Dobson and drummer Saxon Hall. A demo EP, Sleeps with the Fishes, was released in 2010. Three songs from the demo—"Theme Song from HQ", "Beacons" and "Isaac Bowen"—were re-recorded for the band's debut LP, Extended Family. The album was recorded in Hobart with Nic White and Lincoln Le Fevre. It was released in September 2011 via Poison City Records. [6]
Shortly after the release of Extended Family, Patrick Marshall joined the band officially as a third guitarist. This line-up would record one seven-inch together, entitled Tassie, in late 2012. In September of that year Luca Brasi announced that founding drummer and guitarist; Saxon Hall and Mitchell Dobson respectively, would be leaving the band after playing their final show with the band at the Poison City Weekender in Melbourne. Drummer Danny Flood—who had previously filled in for Hall on a tour with Title Fight in March 2013—was brought in as a full-time replacement shortly before a national tour with Bodyjar. Dobson was not replaced, converting the band back into a quartet. [7]
The band's second album, By a Thread, was released in March 2014; it was again put out through Poison City Records. The album spawned two singles: "Borders and Statelines" and "Benthos", with music videos being made for both songs. [8] [9] An assortment of songs that did not make the final cut of the album were compiled into an EP, Loose Threads, which was released in early 2015.
A new single, "Aeroplane", was released shortly before the band undertook a national support slot on Kisschasy's farewell tour of Australia. The song was the lead single from their third studio album, entitled If This Is All We're Going to Be . It was released in April 2016 and marked the band's first-ever appearance on the ARIA Album Charts. Their track "Anything Near Conviction" from the album was voted into the Triple J Hottest 100, 2016, at number 90. Their Like a Version cover of Paul Kelly's "How to Make Gravy" was listed at No. 127 in the supplementary "Hottest 200" list. [10] The album also spawned the single "Count Me Out", which features vocals from Camp Cope vocalist/guitarist Georgia "Maq" Macdonald.
In June 2017, the band released "Got to Give" and performed a headlining tour of Australia in support of it through June and July. "Let it Slip" was released in April 2018 followed by the band's fourth studio album, Stay on 22 June 2018; and is the band's first album to be released via Cooking Vinyl Australia. The album peaked at number 10 on the ARIA Charts. [11] The band performed a six-date national tour to promote album in August. [12] After performing their tour's Sydney show, Luca Brasi called out several troublemakers on their social media for pushing and shoving people in the crowd, causing some fans to leave the show early. Calling them "ropehead fucks", the band condemned their actions, stating "consideration for how you occupy space at shows, and showing respect for your audience mates, will always make for a better experience for everyone." The band announced another national tour for 2019, this time for their single "The Clothes I Slept In". The tour was the band's longest to date, spanning two months and twenty-one dates performing in regional hubs of all states. [14]
In August 2019, the band released a new single, "Tangled; Content". [15] This was followed in February 2020 by "This Selfish Love". [16] The band were scheduled to tour Australia in May 2020 with support from Drug Church, Moaning Lisa and Kat Edwards. This, however, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [17]
In June 2020, the band released a split seven-inch vinyl with Melbourne band Slowly Slowly. [18]
The band released their third single of 2020, "Dying to Feel Alive", in August 2020. This was followed by an acoustic tour of their native Tasmania, which sold out all eight shows the day it went on sale. [19]
On November 19, 2020, the band announced their fifth studio album, Everything Is Tenuous. The announcement was accompanied by another new single, "Every Time You're Here (I'm Gone)". The band released the album in February 2021. [20]
In December 2021, the band released "Jackies Are On the March", an original theme for the Tasmania JackJumpers celebrating the team's inclusion in the 2021–22 NBL season. [21] In March 2023, the band returned to the triple j studios for a second Like a Version session. Along with performing their song "Party Scene", the band covered the song "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls with assistance from Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Eaglemont.
In June 2023, Luca Brasi announced the release of their sixth studio album The World Don't Owe You Anything, which was released on September 29, 2023. [22] In November 2024, the band announced that Marshall would be departing the band, to be replaced by Nick Manuell. [23]

Daniel Leo Sultan is an Australian alternative rock singer-songwriter and guitarist, actor and author. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2010 he won Best Male Artist and Best Blues & Roots Album for his second album, Get Out While You Can. At the 2014 ceremony he won Best Rock Album for Blackbird, which had reached number four on the ARIA Albums Chart. In 2017, Sultan's record Killer was nominated for three ARIA awards: Best Male Artist, Best Rock Album, and Best Independent Release. Sultan's debut children's music album Nali & Friends was named Best Children's Album at the ARIA Music Awards of 2019.
Jen Cloher is an Australian singer, songwriter, and record producer, currently based in Melbourne, Victoria. Cloher's 2017 self-titled fourth studio album peaked at number 5 on the Australian ARIA Charts. From 2006 to 2010, Cloher recorded and toured with her band Jen Cloher and the Endless Sea and since 2013 has released with Mia Dyson and Liz Stringer music under the name Dyson Stringer Cloher.
San Cisco is an Australian indie pop band that formed in 2009 under the original name of King George, in Fremantle, Western Australia. The band are a three-piece, and currently consists of Jordi Davieson, Josh Biondillo and Scarlett Stevens. Davieson and Biondillo share duties on keyboards. In November 2011, the band was signed by Albert Productions, but moved to Island Records for the release of its debut album. In October 2012, the band described its 'vibe' as "squelchy, crispy, streamlined, hairy, indie". At the ARIA Music Awards of 2013 the group were nominated for Best Independent Release and Best Dance Release for the album; and Best Video for "Fred Astaire", which was directed by Andrew Nowrojee.
The Smith Street Band are an Australian rock band from Melbourne, Victoria, in which the titular Smith Street can be found. Tomas Henry Gaynor, known professionally as Allday, is an Australian rapper, singer and songwriter from Adelaide. Gaynor became active in 2011, when he began uploading his music for free online. Following his works becoming increasingly popular, he moved to Melbourne, to pursue a serious career before later relocating to Los Angeles in February 2017. His works have been influenced by acts such as Silverchair, Frank Ocean, and TLC. Gaynor released his debut album, Startup Cult, in July 2014 to Australian audiences. Startup Cult achieved success and reached number three on the ARIA Charts.
Jessica Alyssa Cerro, better known as Montaigne, is an Australian musician, singer, and Twitch streamer. Their debut album, Glorious Heights, was released in August 2016 and peaked at No. 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2016, they won Breakthrough Artist – Release for the album and received nominations in three other categories. In April 2016, they were a featured vocalist on Hilltop Hoods' track "1955", which reached No. 2 on the ARIA Singles Chart. They were supposed to represent Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 with the song "Don't Break Me" until the contest was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, they represented Australia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "Technicolour".
Holy Holy are an Australian indie rock band formed by songwriters Timothy Carroll and Oscar Dawson (guitar) in 2011. The pair were later joined by touring musicians Ryan Strathie (drums), Graham Ritchie and Matt Redlich. They have released four top-20 studio albums and have been nominated for two ARIA Awards.
Tash Sultana is an Australian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music producer, described as a "one-person band". Sultana rose to international prominence with their 2016 single "Jungle", which was voted into third place in Triple J's Hottest 100 countdown of 2016. The following year, Sultana had three songs voted into Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2017; "Mystik" placing at number 28, "Murder to the Mind" at number 43, and their Like a Version cover of MGMT's "Electric Feel" at number 78.
Camp Cope were an Australian alternative rock band formed in 2015 in Melbourne, Victoria. The group's lineup consisted of lead singer, songwriter and guitarist Georgia "Georgia Maq" McDonald, bassist Kelly-Dawn "Kelso" Hellmrich, and drummer Sarah "Thomo" Thompson. The band were signed with independent Melbourne label Poison City Records, where Thompson also works, and independent Boston label Run for Cover Records distributed their releases in North America and Europe. In February 2023, Camp Cope announced their imminent disbandment with a series of final performances.

Middle Kids are an Australian alternative indie rock band from Sydney. The group consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Hannah Joy, bass guitarist Tim Fitz, and drummer Harry Day. Angie McMahon is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician from Melbourne, Victoria. She released her debut studio album Salt in 2019.
Grace Kathleen Elizabeth Shaw, known professionally as Mallrat, is an Australian musician, singer, and rapper from Brisbane. Mallrat has released three EPs: Uninvited (2016), In the Sky (2018) and Driving Music (2019). She also released her full-length debut studio album titled Butterfly Blue (2022) in May 2022 to critical acclaim. In 2019, her tracks "Groceries" and "UFO" placed at number 7 and 70, respectively, in the 2018 Triple J Hottest 100, in 2020, "Charlie" and "Nobody's Home" placed at number 3 and 59, respectively, in the 2019 Triple J Hottest 100 and in 2021, "Rockstar" placed 13 in the 2020 Triple J Hottest 100.
Stella Donnelly is a Welsh-Australian indie rock singer-songwriter and guitarist. After the success of her debut EP Thrush Metal in 2017, she signed with Secretly Canadian in 2018. She released her debut studio album Beware of the Dogs to critical acclaim in March 2019, peaking at number 15 on the ARIA Album Charts, and winning Independent Album of the Year at the AIR Awards. Her second studio album, Flood, was released in August 2022, debuting at number 29 on the ARIA Charts.
Stay is the fourth studio album by Australian rock band Luca Brasi, released on 22 June 2018 by Cooking Vinyl. It was produced by Jimmy Balderston and Nic White with assistance from Darren Cordeux.
Confidence Man are an Australian indie electro pop band formed in 2016 in Brisbane, Queensland. They released their debut album Confident Music for Confident People in April 2018. The front-duo and their band members have been a part of many festivals across the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia, most notably Glastonbury Festival. The drummer, Clarence McGuffie is not publicly known. Previous musicians taking the role of Clarence McGuffie were Sam Hales and Lachlan McGeehan, both ex-boyfriends of Janet Planet.

Amyl and the Sniffers are an Australian pub rock and punk rock band based in Melbourne, consisting of vocalist Amy Taylor ("Amyl"), drummer Bryce Wilson, guitarist Declan Mehrtens, and bassist Gus Romer. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2019. It was followed by Comfort to Me and Cartoon Darkness, in 2021 and 2024, respectively.
