Luis Alberto Bueno (born May 22, 1969) is a (presumed) retired Cuban Track and Field athlete, known primarily for being a Junior long jumper.
He currently holds the World Best in the Youth Division, [1] at 8.25 m set as a 17-year-old while winning the 1986 Ibero-American Championships September 28, 1986 in Havana. It made him the number 8 jumper in the world that year. [2]
Two years later he improved his personal record to 8.28 m at age 19, which stands as the third best performer in the Junior Division, only behind 8.34 m by Randy Williams while winning the 1972 Summer Olympics and the 2012 improvement to 8.35 by Sergey Morgunov of Russia. His age 17 jump would also attain the same status, making it that much more exceptional. As a point of comparison, his 8.28 m was marginally better than Larry Myricks jumped to get the bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics two months later, but Cuba boycotted the Olympics in Seoul, South Korea that year. That year he also won the CAC Junior championships, [3] and the 1988 World Junior Championships in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. [4]
As an open division athlete, he ranked #8 in world in 1990 [5] but since then no elite results have been found. IAAF still lists his Junior best as his personal record.

Javier Sotomayor Sanabria is a Cuban former track and field athlete who specialized in the high jump and is the current world record holder. The 1992 Olympic champion, he was the dominant high jumper of the 1990s; his personal best of 2.45 m makes him the only person ever to have cleared eight feet.
Blanka Vlašić is a Croatian former track and field athlete who specialized in the high jump. She is a two-time world champion and double Olympic medallist who ranks as the joint second highest female jumper of all time with her personal best of 2.08 m. She is the Croatian record holder in the event, and the former indoor world champion.
Yamilé Aldama Pozo is a Cuban-born triple jumper. She represented Cuba until 2003, Sudan from 2004 to 2010, then Great Britain from 2011 onwards. A four-time Olympian (2000–12), she won a silver medal at the 1999 World Championships and a gold medal at the 2012 World Indoor Championships.
Hennadiy Valentynovych Avdyeyenko is a retired high jumper who represented the USSR and later Ukraine. He trained at the Armed Forces sports society in Odessa. He won gold medals at both the Olympics and the World Championships.
Yarisley Silva Rodríguez is a Cuban pole vaulter. She won the silver medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics – the first Latin American athlete to win an Olympic medal in that event.

Teddy Tamgho is a French triple jumper and long jumper. He specialises in the triple jump. He is the former triple jump world indoor record holder, achieved in winning the final and gold medal at the 2011 European Indoor Championships. He is the world's sixth best ever triple jumper outdoors, with his best mark of 18.04 metres achieved in winning the final and gold medal at the 2013 World Championships.
The men's triple jump at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Olympic Stadium on 16 and 18 August. The season had seen a number of athletes performing to a high level before the championships, with reigning World and Olympic champion Nelson Évora leading with 17.66 metres and all three athletes of the Cuban team having jumped over 17.60 m in the season. The other athlete to jump that distance was Phillips Idowu, who was keen make up for his loss to Évora in the 2008 Olympics. The Olympic medallists Évora, Idowu, and Leevan Sands, and the Cuban trio of David Giralt, Yoandris Betanzos and Alexis Copello, were judged to be the strongest competitors entering the competition.
Mutaz Essa Barshim is a Qatari track and field athlete who competes in the high jump and is the current Olympic Champion (2020). He is also the current World Champion and second highest jumper of all-time with a personal best of 2.43. He won gold at the 2017 World Championships in London and at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. At the Olympics, Barshim originally won the full set of medals with bronze at the London 2012 Summer Olympics, silver at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, and shared gold at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2021, his bronze in the London 2012 Summer Olympics was promoted to silver in a three-way tie for second due to disqualification of the original gold medalist. He was the Asian Indoor and World Junior champion in 2010, and won the high jump gold medals at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships and 2011 Military World Games. He holds the Asian record in high jump.
Mariya Aleksandrovna Lasitskene is a Russian athlete who specialises in the high jump. She is the 2020 Olympic champion and three-time world champion. With her victory in Tokyo, Lasitskene became the fourth female high jumper in history to win gold at both the Olympic Games and the World Championships.
Christian Taylor is an American track and field athlete who competes in the triple jump and has a personal record of 18.21 m, which ranks 2nd on the all-time list.
Jorge Fernández is a Cuban track and field athlete who competes in the discus throw. He won the gold medal in the event at the Pan American Games in 2011 and is a two-time winner at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Athletics. She won the gold medal at the 2015 and the silver medal at the 2019 World Championships and was the bronze medalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Caballero also was the Central American and Caribbean champion in 2011 and the 2011 Pan American Games bronze medallist.
