The Nacra 17 is a performance catamaran used for sailing. It was designed in 2011, went into production in 2012 and has been the focus of multihull sailing at the Olympic Games since its conception.
Nikola Girke is a Canadian sailor and a five-time Olympian. She is amongst only a few elite athletes who have made the transition from one sport to another and has achieved a top 10 in the world across three different sport disciplines. She finished 13th at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the 470, then switched to RSX windsurfing and placed 17th at the 2008 Summer Olympics. At the 2012 Summer Olympics she finished 10th in the RS:X. Girke was named to Canada's 2016 Olympic team to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, as part of the Nacra 17 with Luke Ramsay. The duo placed 15th. Girke also competed in windsurfing at both the 2011 Pan American Games and the 2015 Pan American Games placing 4th and 6th respectively. Nikola holds a degree from UBC in Human Kinetics and is a Certified Executive and Emotional Intelligence coach.
Sailing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 25 July to 4 August 2021 at the Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Enoshima. The venue was also used for the 1964 Olympic Games although significantly regenerated, the IOC now encouraging regeneration, cost reductions and sustainability. The RS:X, Laser, Laser Radial, Finn, 470, 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra17 are all returning for 2020; there are no significant changes to the Olympic programme from 2016.
Joonas Lindgren is a Finnish sailor, who specialized in two-person dinghy (470) class. He represented Finland at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has also been training for the Helsinki Sailing Club throughout most of his sporting career. His father and personal coach Jouko Lindgren shared bronze medals with Georg Tallberg in the same program at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. As of September 2013, Lindgren is ranked no. 33 in the world for two-person dinghy class by the International Sailing Federation.
Stuart McNay is an American sailor, who specialized in two-person dinghy (470) class. He represented the United States, at four Olympics: two times partner Graham Biehl, in 2008 and 2012 and twice with partner Dave Hughes in 2016 and 2020.

Ferdinand Gerz is a German sailor, who specialized in two-person dinghy (470) class. He represented Germany, along with his partner Patrick Follmann, in the men's 470 class at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has also been training throughout most of his sporting career at Deutscher Touring Yacht Club in Tutzing.
Asenathi Jim is a South African sailor, who specialized in two-person dinghy (470) class. He represented South Africa, along with his personal coach and partner Roger Hudson, at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has also been training throughout most of his sporting career for RaceAhead Yacht Club. As of June 2015, Jim is ranked twentieth in the world for the two-person dinghy class by the International Sailing Federation, despite of his remarkable triumphs at the 2014 Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, Netherlands.
Roger Hudson is a South African sailor, who specialized in two-person dinghy (470) class. He represented South Africa, along with his trainee and partner Asenathi Jim, at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has also been training throughout most of his sporting career for RaceAhead Yacht Club, under his personal coach and father Dave Hudson, who competed in the Flying Dutchman class at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. As of June 2015, Hudson is ranked twentieth in the world for the two-person dinghy class by the International Sailing Federation, despite his remarkable triumphs at the 2014 Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, Netherlands.
Benjamín José Grez Ahrens is a Chilean sailor, who specialized in two-person dinghy (470) class. He represented Chile, along with his partner Diego González, at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has also been training throughout most of his sporting career for Team VTR Yacht Club in his native Santiago, under his personal coach Cristian Noe. As of June 2015, Grez is ranked among the top 200 sailors in the world for the two-person dinghy class by the International Sailing Federation.
Diego González Parro is a Chilean sailor, who specialized in two-person dinghy (470) class. He represented Chile, along with his partner Benjamín Grez, at the 2012 Summer Olympics, and has also been training throughout most of his sporting career for Team VTR Yacht Club in his native Santiago, under his personal coach Cristian Noe. As of June 2015, Gonzalez is ranked among the top 400 sailors in the world for the two-person dinghy class by the International Sailing Federation.
Michael Leigh is a Canadian sailor, who specialized in one-person (Laser) and two-person dinghy (470) classes. Representing Canada in two editions of the Olympic Games, he finished ninth in the Laser class at Beijing 2008, and then twenty-fifth in the 470 class at London 2012 with his partner Luke Ramsay. Leigh has also been training throughout his sailing career for the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club under his Australian-born personal coach Joshua Chant.
Samuel Albrecht is a Brazilian sailor who specializes in both two-person dinghy (470) and mixed multihull classes. He has been selected to compete for the Brazilian sailing team at the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing seventeenth along with his partner Fabio Pillar in the 470 regatta. After missing out on the Olympic selection in 2012, Albrecht decided to turn his attention and eventually teamed up with Olympic bronze medalist Isabel Swan on the newly instated Nacra 17 catamaran for a chance to compete at his possible second Games in Rio de Janeiro. As of April 2015, Albrecht is ranked forty-fourth in the world for the mixed multihull class by the International Sailing Federation.
Graeme Saunders is a Canadian sailor. Along with his partner Jacob Saunders, he competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics, finishing in 22nd place in the men's 470 event. He started his early training at the Chester Yacht Club and has also competed as Graeme Chaplin-Saunders.

He represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics together with Oliver Bone of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, finishing in 17th place in the men's 470 event. He started his early training and career with the Chester Yacht Club, competing as Jacob Chaplin-Saunders.
Nicola Groves is a British competitive sailor. She competed for Great Britain at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Oliver Bone is a Canadian sailor, who specialized in two-person dinghy (470) class. He represented Canada, along with his partner Stéphane Locas, at the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing last from a fleet of twenty-nine entries. Currently, Bone trains for the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Terence Koh is a Singaporean former sailor, who specialized in the two-person dinghy (470) class. Together with his partner Xu Yuan Zhen, he was named one of the country's top sailors in the double-handed dinghy for the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing in a distant twenty-second place. Outside his Olympic career, he and Xu gave the Singaporeans a sterling silver medal in the men's 470 at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. A member of the Singapore Sailing Federation, Koh trained for the Games under the tutelage of Australian-born head coach Craig Ferris. He is also the younger brother of two-time Olympian Koh Seng Leong.
Stéphane Locas is a Canadian former sailor, who specialized in the two-person dinghy (470) class. Together with his partner Oliver Bone, he was named one of the country's top sailors in the double-handed dinghy for the 2008 Summer Olympics, finishing in a distant twenty-ninth place. A member of Beaconsfield Yacht Club in Montreal, Locas trained throughout his sailing career for the Canadian team under head coach Marc-André Littée.
Anna Burnet is an Olympic Silver Medallist and two time World champion in sailings Mixed multihull Olympic discipline. She lives in Scotland. In 2020 she became world champion in the Nacra 17 World Championship with partner John Gimson. They were selected for the British Olympic team and gained silver medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The pair continued their good run to win the 2021 World and European Championships.
