M. Saravanan (producer)

Saravanan Surya Mani or M. Saravanan, also known as AVM Saravanan or Meiyappa Saravanan, is an Indian producer of Tamil films. His production company is AVM Productions, which was founded in 1945 by his father, the famed director-producer A. V. Meiyappan, who is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Tamil cinema. He has been involved in hits such as Naanum Oru Penn , Samsaram Adhu Minsaram , Sivaji: The Boss , Vettaikaran , Minsara Kanavu , Leader and Ayan . He is the father of M. S. Guhan, another producer of movies. He owns the AVM Studios in Chennai. [1] [2] [3] As a producer he won two Filmfare Awards South. He also served as the Sheriff of Madras in 1986.

AVM Productions is an Indian film production studio founded by A. V. Meiyappa Chettiar. It is the oldest studio in India. The filming studios are located in Vadapalani, Chennai. It has produced over 300 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi cinema. AVM has introduced numerous actors in Southern industries, some of the prominent actors are Superstar Rajnikanth, Sivaji Ganesan, Rajkumar, S. S. Rajendran, Vyjayanthimala, Kamal Haasan and many more. The AVM Studios besides the shooting floors, has recording, dubbing and a preview theatre. The complex also houses facilities for production and post production processing.

Yajaman is a 1993 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by R. V. Udayakumar. The film stars Rajinikanth, Meena and Aishwarya, with M. N. Nambiar, Manorama, Vijayakumar and Napoleon in supporting roles. It was produced by M. Saravanan, M. S. Guhan and M. Subrahmaniam of AVM Productions. The film was released on 18 February 1993 and became commercially successful, with a 175-day theatrical run.

Avichi Meiyappa Chettiar, also known as A. V. Meiyappan, A. V. Meiyappa Chettiar or AVM, was an Indian film producer, director and philanthropist who established AVM Productions in Vadapalani, Chennai. He is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Tamil cinema, and one of three movie moguls of the South Indian film industry along with S. S. Vasan and L. V. Prasad. His production company AVM Productions is the only production company in Kollywood to run successfully for five decades and three generations.

Shanmugasundaram, known by his stage name A.V.M. Rajan, is an Indian preacher and former actor who was active in Tamil cinema during the 1960s and 1970s. Born in Pudukottai, Shanmugasundaram was very eager to join cinema though he held a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Madras University. His higher secondary was at Christian Sweden Mission High School. His parents wanted to see him as a police officer. He came to Madras to write the examination, but didn't fit for the exam. He was not confident as he couldn't straighten his left hand fractured at the age of 14. Instead, while working at Raj Bhavan Guindy Chennai, he tried his luck in cinema knocking on the doors of every film company to earn a better income. At long last, his relentless efforts yielded result by getting him the opportunity to enter cinema through the film Aayiram Kaalathu Payiru in which he was introduced as "Raja B.A.". Soon after, he was signed to act in the AVM's film Naanum Oru Penn also.

Meenakshisundaram Ramasamy Viswanathan, best known by his stage name Visu, was an Indian writer, director, stage, film and television actor and talk-show host. Visu initially worked as an assistant to director K. Balachander until becoming a director himself. He later began acting, with his first film being Kudumbam Oru Kadambam (1981), directed by S. P. Muthuraman.

Samsaram Adhu Minsaram is a 1986 Indian Tamil-language drama film produced by AVM Productions, and written and directed by Visu. He also stars as part of an ensemble cast including Lakshmi, Chandrasekhar, Kishmu, Raghuvaran, Delhi Ganesh, Ilavarasi, Manorama, Madhuri, Kamala Kamesh, Dilip and Haja Sheriff. The film revolves around the splintering of a joint family, and the efforts made by the patriarch's eldest daughter-in-law to reunite them.

A. C. Thirulokachandar, also known as A. C. Tirulokchandar, was an Indian film director and screenwriter who worked mainly in Tamil films from the 1960s to 1988. He also directed a few films in Hindi and Telugu. His 1969 Tamil film Deiva Magan was the first South Indian film to be submitted by India in contest for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Naanum Oru Penn is a 1963 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by A. C. Tirulokchandar and written by K. P. Kottarakkara. The film stars S. S. Rajendran and R. Vijayakumari, with S. V. Ranga Rao, M. R. Radha, S. V. Subbaiah, C. K. Nagesh, Rajan and C. S. Pushpalatha in supporting roles. It revolves around a dark complexioned and uneducated girl and how she convinces everyone that more than appearance and education, it is the character which is important for a woman.

<i>Kaakum Karangal</i> 1965 film by A. C. Tirulokchandar

Kaakum Karangal is a 1965 Indian Tamil-language drama film, directed by A. C. Tirulokchandar. Inspired by British writer W. Somerset Maugham's 1925 novel The Painted Veil, it was produced by Murugan Brothers, a subsidiary of AVM Productions. The film stars S. S. Rajendran and C. R. Vijayakumari, with Nagesh, L. Vijayalakshmi, S. V. Subbaiah, Sivakumar and Revathi playing supporting roles. It was released on 19 June 1965, and failed at the box office.

Vairamuthu is an Indian lyricist, poet, and novelist working in the Tamil film industry. A master's graduate from the Pachaiyappa's College in Chennai, he first worked as a translator, while also being a published poet. He entered the Tamil film industry in the year 1980, with the film Nizhalgal, an Ilaiyaraaja musical, directed by Bharathiraja. During the course of his 40-year film career, he has written over 7,500 songs and poems which have won him seven National Awards, the most for any Indian lyricist. He has also been honored with a Padma Shri, a Padma Bhushan and a Sahitya Akademi Award, for his abundant literary output.

<i>Uravukku Kai Koduppom</i> 1975 film by Y. G. Mahendran

Uravukku Kai Koduppom is a 1975 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Y. G. Mahendran, produced and written by K. S. Gopalakrishnan. It is based on Visu's play of the same name, also directed by Mahendran. The film stars Gemini Ganesan and Sowcar Janaki. It was released on 28 March 1975, and failed at the box office, although the story was reused by Visu for Samsaram Adhu Minsaram in 1986.

Meenakshisundaram Ramasamy Krishnamurthy better known as Kishmu was an Indian film and stage actor. He is also brother of famous actor and director Visu. Kishmu made his debut in the Visu-directed film Manal Kayiru in 1982. Other notable film appearances include Dowry Kalyanam, Chidambara Rahasiyam, Samsaram Adhu Minsaaram, Thirumathi Oru Vegumathi, Vedikkai En Vadikkai, Nanayam Illatha Nanayam, Kavalan Avan Kovalan, and Varavu Nalla Uravu.

<i>Thiyagu</i> (film) 1990 Indian film

Thiyagu is a 1990 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by S. P. Muthuraman and written by Sivasankari. Produced by AVM Productions, it is based on the TV series Oru Manithanin Kathai, itself based on Sivasankari's novel by the same name. The film stars Raghuvaran, reprising his role from the series. It was released on 5 October 1990, and failed commercially.
