Madani Berkisa Sejati United Football Club, [1] commonly known as MBS United, is an Indonesian professional football club based in the Batam, Riau Islands. They currently compete in the Liga 4.
The Riau Islands is a province of Indonesia—not to be confused with neighbouring Riau Province from which the Riau Islands Province were separated in 2002. The capital of the province is Tanjung Pinang, while the largest city is Batam. It shares a maritime border with Riau and Jambi to the west, Bangka Belitung Islands to the south, Singapore to the northeast, Malaysia and West Kalimantan to the east, and Vietnam and Cambodia to the north. It comprises a total of 2.408 islands scattered between Sumatra, Malay Peninsula, and Borneo including the Riau Archipelago. Situated on one of the world's busiest shipping lanes along the Malacca Strait and the Natuna Sea, the province shares water borders with neighboring countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei. The Riau Islands also have relatively large potential mineral resources and energy, as well as marine resources.
The SIJORI was established in 1994 between three countries, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, to strengthen economic links in the region and optimise the complementarity between the three countries. It started off as the SIJORI Growth Triangle in 1989, which includes Singapore, Johor (Malaysia), and Riau Archipelago, a part of Riau Islands Province (Indonesia).
Tanjungpinang, also colloquially written as Tanjung Pinang, is the capital city of the Indonesian province of Riau Islands. It covers a land area of 144.56 km2, mainly in the southern part of Bintan Island, as well as other smaller islands such as Dompak Island and Penyengat Island. With a population of 227,663 at the 2020 Census, it is the second largest city of the province, after Batam; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 234,840. Tanjungpinang is a historic city of the Malay culture, having served as the capital of both Johor Sultanate and Riau-Lingga Sultanate.
Rempang Island is an Indonesian island, located 2.5 km southeast of the neighbouring Batam Island, with the total land mass size of 165.83 km2. Rempang Island belongs to the three-interconnected islands group of Riau Archipelago known as Barelang, and administratively part of the Riau Islands Province. The nearest urban city to Rempang Island is the Tanjung Pinang City, located on neighbouring Bintan Island.
Persatuan Sepak Bola Bintang Jaya Asahan, commonly known as PS Bintang Jaya Asahan, was an Indonesian football club based in Asahan Regency, North Sumatra. The club was merged with YSK 757 Karimun in 2017 to form 757 Kepri Jaya F.C.
The 2014 Liga Nusantara Riau Islands season was the first edition of Liga Nusantara Riau Islands as a qualifying round of the 2014 Liga Nusantara. The competition started in May 2014.
YSK 757 Karimun or Yayasan Sepakbola Karimun 757 was an Indonesian football club based in Karimun Regency, Riau Islands, and nicknamed "The Captains". They used to play in the Liga Nusantara. The club was merged with PS Bintang Jaya Asahan in 2017 to form 757 Kepri Jaya F.C.
On 3 December 2016, a PZL M28 Skytruck of the Indonesian National Police disappeared above the South China Sea while approaching Hang Nadim Airport in Riau Islands. The aircraft was conducting a flight from Depati Amir Airport in Pangkal Pinang, the capital of Bangka Belitung province. The aircraft was carrying three pilots and ten passengers with no survivors on the aircraft. A search and rescue team was assembled by the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency with assistance from Singapore.

The 2018 Liga 2 Final was the final match of the 2018 Liga 2, the ninth season of second-tier competition in Indonesia organised by PT Liga Indonesia Baru, and the second season since it was renamed from the Liga Indonesia Premier Division to the Liga 2. The 2024 Riau Islands gubernatorial election will be held on 27 November 2024 as part of nationwide local elections to elect the governor of the Riau Islands for a five-year term. The previous election was held in 2020.
