The MF Lastovo is a ferry owned by Croatian shipping company Jadrolinija that operates on local routes. [2] The ship was built in Japan's Kurushima Dock Co. Ltd. for Japanese company Shikoku Chuo Ferry Boat K.K [3] to serve the route between Kawanoe and Kobe. In 1978 the ship was bought by Jadrolinija and renamed, firstly to Partizanka, then, in the same year, to Lastovo I. In the year 1998 the ship was renamed to Lastovo.

Its capacity is 500 passengers and 60 vehicles. [4] In December 2023, Jadrolinija announced that Lastovo is set to be replaced with a newer and larger ship  [ it; jp ], also built in Japan, launched in 1997 as Tsurugi, and bought third-hand from a Greek owner; [4] initially renamed as Vela Luka, it was renamed to Oliver during 2024, after Oliver Dragojević. [5] [6]

Accidents

On August 15, 1993, around 7 PM (CEST), while Lastovo I was at a position around 2 nmi from Ubli, the fire broke out in the engine room. The ship had managed to dock, but the fire was extinguished just on Aug 16, 3:30 AM. The badly damaged ship was towed to Split's north port Vranjic. Since the damage was great, the possibility of sending the ship to a scrapyard was considered, but it was finally rejected, and the Jadran-Brodoremont d.o.o. completed the repair on Aug 4, 1994, with new engines installed.

On August 11, 2024, three crew members were killed and one was severely injured when the bow ramp reportedly weighing around 10 tons uncontrollably fell on the crew who were on the dock. [7] The investigation is conducted by the Port Captaincy of Rijeka; the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure; and the Air, Maritime and Railway Traffic Accidents Investigation Agency. The Battle of the Dalmatian Channels was a three-day confrontation between three tactical groups of Yugoslav Navy ships and coastal artillery, and a detachment of naval commandos of the Croatian Navy fought on 14–16 November 1991 during the Croatian War of Independence. On 14 November, the commandos torpedoed the Mirna-class patrol boat PČ-176 Mukos close to the island of Brač in the Split Channel of the Adriatic Sea, prompting a Yugoslav naval bombardment of Brač and Šolta Island the same day. The drifting Mukos was salvaged by Croatian civilian boats and beached at Nečujam bay.

The Port of Rijeka is a seaport in Rijeka, Croatia, located on the shore of the Kvarner Gulf in the Adriatic Sea. The first records of the port date to 1281. It was the main port of the Kingdom of Hungary in the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, of Yugoslavia between World War II and 1991, and of Croatia after its independence. The MF Prince is a ferry currently owned by Greek company A-Ships Management. She previously sailed for B+I Line as the Connacht, Brittany Ferries as the Duchesse Anne and Jadrolinija as the Dubrovnik.

MF Bartol Kašić is a ferry, built in 1989, operated by Croatian state-owned company Jadrolinija, and navigating on local routes in Croatia. Capacity of the ship is 500 passengers, 54 cars. Maximum speed is 13 knots.

SS <i>Monas Isle</i> (1905) Steam turbine passenger ship, 1905 to 1948

SS Mona's Isle was a steam turbine passenger ship that was built in Scotland in 1905 as Onward, renamed Mona's Isle in 1920, and scrapped in Wales in 1948. She was designed as an English Channel ferry for the South Eastern and Chatham Railway (SE&CR), who operated her between Folkestone and Boulogne. In 1920 the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company (IoMSP) bought her and renamed her Mona's Isle. The IoMSP ran her mainly on summer services linking Douglas with Dublin and Belfast. She was the fourth IoMSP ship to be called Mona's Isle.

The MF Vis is a passenger and vehicle ferry built in 1965 by the shipyards Flensburger Schiffbaugesellschaft of Flensburg. It was launched on 12 April 1965 and placed in service on August 31, 1965 as Sydfyn by Færgefart Nordic.

MT <i>Petar Hektorović</i> Ferry owned by Jadrolinija

MT Petar Hektorović is a roll-on/roll-off passenger and cargo ferry currently in use as part of Croatian shipping company Jadrolinija's fleet. It is the only ferry regularly servicing the Split–Vis route in the Adriatic Sea and its crew has been praised for its skill in difficult waters and its performance in emergency service.
