MIT World Peace University,(MIT-WPU) is a private university located in Kothrud, Pune, India. [7] [8] It is a part of the MIT Group of Institutions. [9] [10]

It is officially named Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University. It was established under the Government of Maharashtra Act No. XXXV 2017 and recognized by the University Grants Commission.

History

Evolution as university

The university was formerly known as the Maharashtra Institute of Technology which was established in 1983 as the first college of the MAEER group of institutions, and was one of the first private engineering colleges in Maharastra. MAEER was affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), [11] which turned into MIT World Peace University, a private university under the guidance of Revered Prof (Dr.) Vishwanath D Karad. [12]

Student life

Cultural activities like drama, literary arts and music as well as sports and other activities are very important in student life. MITCOE-ts also have been participating in Firodiya Karandak an inter-collegiate competition where students showcase their talents through plays. [17] MITCOE-ts' regularly participate in linguistic and Marathi play competitions like Purshottam Karandtak. [18] MITCOE remained in the top three ranks of Purshottam karandtak and was the winner of its 2011 edition. [19] [20]

Student clubs include:

MITCIE regularly takes part in an international robotics event called ROBOCON hosted by MIT in association with Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The event gets televised on Doordarshan (Prasarbharati) and colleges from 16 nations send robotics teams to take part in this competition. [29] In 2010 a specially dedicated lab for Robocon have been added to the MITCOE. In 2012 MIT college of engineering Robocon team was ranked 6th & in 2013, 14th among 80 engineering colleges including IIT's and NIT's nationwide. [29]

The technical event of MITCOE is called TESLA, which includes competitions, workshops and seminars. It was formerly known as Pinnacle and is scheduled in September each year. Participants from many colleges of India come to take part in this technical event. [30]

It was renamed University of Roorkee in 1949, and again renamed IIT Roorkee in 2001. The institution has 22 academic departments covering Engineering, Applied Sciences, Humanities & Social Sciences and Management programs with an emphasis on scientific and technological education and research.

KJSCE is situated in Somaiya Vidyavihar University campus which is spread across approximately 65 acres of posh land. Earlier it was also one of the only 7 autonomous engineering colleges in Mumbai.

The College of Engineering Pune (COEP) Technological University is a unitary public university of the Government of Maharashtra, situated in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Established in 1854, it is the 3rd oldest engineering institute in India, after College of Engineering, Guindy (1794) and IIT Roorkee (1847). The students and alumni are colloquially referred to as COEPians. On 23 June 2022, Government of Maharashtra issued a notification regarding conversion of the college into an independent technological university. Government College of Engineering, Aurangabad (GECA) is an autonomous engineering Institute in Maharashtra state of India. It is affiliated with the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University and was established in 1960. The construction of the college was started in 1957 and was completed in 1960. Later on, it included the extension building that presently houses the Electronics and Telecommunication Department, Computer Science Engineering Department and Master of Computer Application Department. The recently constructed classroom complex houses the classes of first year students of all branches along with the Information Technology Department.

The School of Engineering is a college under Cochin University of Science and Technology, in Kochi (Cochin), Kerala, India. Established in 1979 for offering part-time M.Tech programmes. The school was the first in the country to introduce Information Technology as an engineering stream and is one among very few colleges in the country with a B. Tech course in Safety and Fire Engineering. The school is a Research Centre and major Consultancy Centre. A number of research projects of national importance have been sanctioned to the school by agencies like DRDO, ISRO, DST, AICTE, UGC, Coir Board, and the Coconut Development Board.

Government College of Engineering and Research, Avasari Khurd (GCOEARA) is a Maharashtra state government engineering college. It was established in 2009. The college is located about 62 km north of Pune, on Nashik-Pune National Highway (NH-60) and 70 km from the shrine Bhimashankar. The campus is spread over 50 acres with academic buildings and separate administrative and workshop buildings, a separate residential zone with quarters for faculty and staff and hostels. The college is approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi, and is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra state, Mumbai controls the institute through its regional office at Pune.
