Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University(SGBAU), formerly Amravati University, named after Sant Gadge Baba, is a public state university located at Amravati in the Vidarbha region of the state of Maharashtra, India. Today, it is one of the largest universities in the country with 382 affiliated colleges and about 3.5 lakh students.

History


The university was established on 1 May 1983 through the partitioning of Nagpur University.[ citation needed ]

The university campus is spread over an area of 225 hectares, and the university is home to 20 post-graduate departments offering 25 courses in different disciplines.[ citation needed ]

It has jurisdiction over five districts of Maharashtra: Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Washim and Yavatmal.[ citation needed ]

Affiliations

Amravati University is recognized under Section 12(B) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The University received NAAC accreditation in 2002. 127 colleges are affiliated with Amravati University, with an enrollment of over 90,000 students for the undergraduate and graduate courses, together, in different faculties.[ citation needed ]

Amravati University is an associate member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, London. [1]

Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering (SSGMCE) is an engineering college at Shegaon in Buldhana District of Maharashtra, India. It is affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. SSGMCE was established on 23 August 1983 by Shri Gajanan Shikshan Sanstha, Shegaon. It is run by Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj Temple Trust. The college grants Bachelor's & Master's degrees in engineering in mechanical, electronics & telecommunication, computer science and engineering, and information technology. It also offers programs of Masters in Business Administration (MBA). It had a total enrollment of around 1,600 students in the academic year of 2017–2018.

Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth is an agricultural university located at Akola, in Maharashtra, India, in the Vidarbha region. The university is responsible for agricultural education, research and extension education along with breeder and foundation seed programmes. Its jurisdiction includes all eleven districts of Vidarbha namely Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Washim, Wardha and Yavatmal. The Central Campus is at Akola while another major campus is at Nagpur and a new campus has been established at Garchiroli.

Shri. RLT College of Science at Akola in Maharashtra, India is a prominent science college of the Vidarbha region as well as in India.

Anjangaon is a city and a municipal council in Amravati district in the state of Maharashtra, India. Anjangaon City got the status of Municipal Council in 1930. It is the first municipal council established in Amravati district and the second biggest council as well. Anjangaon Surji Tehsil was established in 1981. It is technically made up of two main zones, Anjangaon and Surji, on either side of Shahanur River, and is called Anjangaon-Surji in combination. It is called a "Banana Hub of Vidarbha" as it is a large producer of bananas and a hub of medicinal plants - Piper longum and Safed musali.

Shree Shivaji Education Society is the largest Educational society in Vidarbha. It was established by Dr.Panjabrao Deshmukh at Amravati. Now this society is one of the largest of its kind in India. This society has arts, commerce and science colleges, a management college at Nagpur, an engineering college at Akola and a medical college at Amravati. It has a widespread network of school and colleges in Vidarbha.

Government College of Engineering, Amravati (GCOEA) is an autonomous engineering college affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University in Amravati, Maharashtra, India. Established in 1964, it is one of the oldest engineering institutes in state of Maharashtra. Beside engineering education, it is a recognized research center for Ph.D Programs in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering for Amravati University. The student strength is around 1,800.

'Siddhivinayak Technical Campus', School of Engineering & Research Technology and School of Polytechnic & Research Technology (STC) at Shegaon, in Maharashtra, India is an Engineering college in the Vidarbha region. STC is a private engineering institute run by "Vasundhara Bahuddeshiya Samajik Sanstha" granting Diploma & Bachelor's degree in Engineering with specialization in Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering and Civil Engineering.
