Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences is located in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, India. Its parent trust, Pravara Medical Trust, was founded by Vithalrao Vikhe Patil in 1972 while the university was founded by Balasaheb Vikhe Patil. It was granted status by the University Grants Commission in 2003 as a Deemed University, but now with the recent changes made is to be called Deemed to be university. [1]

Eknathrao alias Balasaheb Vikhe Patil was an Indian politician and former Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises & Minister of state of Finance in Government of India. He has served as a Member of Parliament of Lok Sabha at various occasions representing Kopargaon & Ahmednagar. He was a member of the Indian National Congress but later joined Shivsena.

Dhananjay Ramchandra Gadgil, also known as D. R. Gadgil, was an Indian economist, institution builder and the vice-chairman of the Planning Commission of India. He was the founder Director of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune and the author of the Gadgil formula, which served as the base for the allocation of central assistance to states during the Fourth and Fifth Five Year Plans of India. He is credited with contributions towards the development of Farmers' Cooperative movement in Maharashtra. The Government of India recognised his services by issuing a commemorative postage stamp in his honour in 2008.

Modern education was introduced to Maharashtra region during the 19th century by British colonial administration. Census of 2011 showed literacy rates in the state for males and females were around 78% and 67% respectively. Education at different levels in the state is provided by the state, government supported charities, or private institutions. There are also a number of institutes offering vocational training.

Shirdi is one of the 288 Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Maharashtra state in Western India.

Sugarcane is the primary cash crop among farmers of the western Maharashtra region. The sugarcane is mostly sold to sugar mills for sugar production. Majority of these mills are cooperatives owned by the sugarcane growers. Solapur district has highest number of sugar factories in Maharashtra.

Vithalrao Eknath Rao Vikhe Patil was an Indian industrialist, the founder of the first sugar factory in the cooperative sector in India at Loni, in Maharashtra and the founder of a group of industries and institutions composed of Institute of Business Management and Rural Development, Padmashri Dr. Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Foundation's Medical College and Hospital and Padmashri Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Limited, operating under Padmashree Dr. Vithalrao Foundation. The Government of India honoured him in 1961,with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award for his services to the nation. His son, Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, was a recipient of Padma Bhushan, a member of parliament and a former minister.

The Pravara Rural Education Society (PRES) was established in July 1964 at Pravara, Loni, a large village in Maharashtra state in India. It is located between Pune to the South and Nashik to the North. The founder, Padamshri Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil, was a leader of the cooperative movement. The society's first school was an English medium school.
