Alexander Adelabu (born 27 September 1999), professionally known as Magixx, [1] [2] is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. In 2021, he was signed to Mavin Records. [3] He is known for a distinctly hybrid approach fusing trap, dancehall, Afropop and R&B. In 2019, Magixx initiated his rise to fame when he released 'Problem,' a succinct blend of Afropop and Afro R&B, showcasing his evolving musical exploration. The track quickly seized the spotlight within Nigeria's music elite, drawing admiration from notable figures like Mayorkun, M.I, Zlatan Ibile, and the influential Don Jazzy of Mavin Records. This attention culminated in his eventual signing with Mavin Records. [4]

Early life and education

Adelabu was born and brought up in Lagos State. He obtained a degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos. [5] He is known for a distinctly hybrid approach fusing trap, dancehall, Afropop and R&B.

Magixx's musical journey began in Lagos, Nigeria, where his passion for music blossomed at a young age. Introduced to artists like Fela Kuti and DMX, Magixx started experimenting with music at 12. [6] He honed his skills in the local church choir and drew inspiration from his family's diverse musical tastes, with his mother serving as a steadfast supporter.

Despite initial doubts, Magixx's talent shone through, earning recognition with a university singing competition win. This moment marked a shift in his father's perspective, leading to newfound support for Magixx's musical aspirations. Encouraged by his family's backing, Magixx began pursuing music seriously, determined to carve out a career in the industry. [4]

Career

Magixx began singing in the choir at the age of 10. [7] In 2019, after struggling to pay for studio sessions in uni, Magixx released ‘Problem’, a showcase of the sounds he was experimenting with at that time. In September 2021, he was signed to Mavin Records and released his debut self-titled EP Magixx, in that same year. [7]

In February 2022, he released a new version of "Love Don't Cost a Dime" with Ayra Starr, which debuted at 27 on TurnTableTop 50 chart, and peaked at number 8, on 28 March 2022. [8] [9] On 20 July 2022, he released "Shaye" as the lead single from his second EP ATOM. [10] ATOM was released on 22 July 2022, to positive critical response. [11] He launched 2023 with a two-pack release with the tracks Colors (My Baby) & Loyal [12] and in August he released Maria. [13]

19 & Dangerous is the debut studio album by Nigerian singer-songwriter Ayra Starr. It was released on 6 August 2021 by Mavin Records and Platoon, less than seven months after the singer's self-titled debut EP. 19 & Dangerous was a concept album following a Gen Z girl transitioning from adolescence into early adulthood with growing confidence, artistic zeal, sentimentality and empathy. Ayra Starr worked with producers London, Andre Vibez, Louddaaa and Don Jazzy, the latter two of whom also contributed production to her previous record. In addition to reuniting with her preexisting musical partners, she also collaborated with several new writers and artists including Fousheé and CKay.

The song was written by Magixx, and produced by Lomon. A new version of the song titled "Love Don't Cost a Dime (Re-Up)" featuring Nigerian singer Ayra Starr was released as a single in 2022.

Alexander Uwaifo known professionally as Andre Vibez is a Nigerian music producer and songwriter. He is best known for producing "Rush" from Ayra Starr's album 19 & Dangerous and Rema international hit single “Calm Down” which peaked at number one on the India IMI International chart and also peak no.3 on Billboard Hot 100. In September 2022, he was announced as one of the new signed record producers of the Nigerian record label, Mavin Records.

Ugbekile David Osemeke, known professionally as Boy Spyce, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He gained recognition following his 2021 cover of Wizkid's song "Essence". Its success led him to sign a recording contract with Mavin Records, which released his debut extended play, self-titled Boy Spyce, in 2022 to modest commercial success.

The Year I Turn 21 is the second studio album by Nigerian singer-songwriter Ayra Starr. It was released through Mavin Records on 31 May 2024. The album contains guest appearances from Asake, Anitta, Coco Jones, Giveon, Seyi Vibez, Rvssian, and Rauw Alejandro. It serves as the follow-up to her previous album, 19 & Dangerous (2021).
