The Headies 2023 was the 16th edition of Nigerian music awards The Headies. It was held at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, United States on 3 September 2023. Hosted by Osas Ighodaro & Terrence J. [1] The ceremony was to be aired live on HipTV. Burna Boy lead nominations with ten, [2] Asake with eight, Rema, Omah Lay, Victony, Simi, Kizz Daniel, and Pheelz received five each. [2] While Oxlade received four, [2] and Ruger with three. [2] Rema, and Burna Boy received three awards each. [3]

On 1 June 2023, the executive held a stakeholder brunch in Nigeria. [4] On 11 July 2023, the organizers announced the Rookie category of the year, being the first batch of nominees unveiled. [5] On 12 July 2023, the remain categories was released to the public on its website. [2] On 28 July 2023, the United States Consulate Lagos, hosted a reception in honour of the award. [6] [7]

The Headies is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. The annual ceremony features performances by established and promising artists. It is broadcast live on HipTV to viewers across Nigeria. The first and second editions of The Headies were held at the Muson Center in Onikan, Lagos State. Between 2010 and 2012, the awards were held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. Several media personalities in Nigeria have hosted the annual ceremony, including Darey Art Alade, D'banj, Dakore Egbuson, Banky W., Rita Dominic, M.I, Tiwa Savage and Dr SID.

Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka, popularly known by his stage Chike, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actor. Chike gained prominence by participating in the Nigerian reality competition Project Fame West Africa. Additionally, he showcased his talents on The Voice Nigeria, where he achieved the second position during Season 1. Chike ventured into acting by making his debut as Mayowa Badmus on the Africa Magic Showcase telenovela Battleground. He also appeared in the production Gang of Lagos, portraying the character Ify.

The Headies 2019 was the thirteenth edition of The Headies. It was held on October 19, 2019, at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. Themed "Power of a Dream", the ceremony was hosted by rapper Reminisce and actress Nancy Isime. After shortlisting thousands of entries submitted between January 2018 and June 2019, the organizers of the ceremony announced the nominees on 1 October 2019. Burna Boy set a record for the most nominations in one night with 10 nominations. Teni followed with 6 and Wizkid with 5. The ceremony featured performances from a number of artists, including Styl-Plus, Sunny Neji, Duncan Mighty, Teni and Victor AD. Teni won the most awards with 4. Rema won the Next Rated award, beating Fireboy DML, Joeboy, Lyta, Victor AD and Zlatan.

The Headies Award for Producer of the Year is an award presented at The Headies, a ceremony that was established in 2006 and originally called the Hip Hop World Awards. It was first presented to Don Jazzy in 2006.

ThankGod Omori Jesam known professionally as TG Omori or Boy Director, is a Nigerian music video director and cinematographer.

Samuel Onwubiko, known by his stage name Limoblaze is a Nigerian gospel singer-songwriter and rapper. He is well known for the hit song "Jireh " with Lecrae and Happi, a reworking of "Jireh" by Elevation Worship and Maverick City Music; the song made it to the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs of 2022, Official Charts No. 15, and won several other nominations including The Headies and The Stellar Awards.

To celebrate 20 years of promoting and supporting African and Afro-inspired music, Trace staged the 1st Trace Awards & Festival at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda on 21 October 2023. The show was televised live to 350 million viewers and music fans around the world on Trace channels in 180 countries.

Young Preacher is the second studio album by Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez. The album was awarded the Best Rap album in The Headies award 2023.

Fuayefika Maxwell known professionally as ‘Wizard Chan’ is a Nigerian Afro-Teme and reggae singer, songwriter and music producer. He released his first official single titled 'Halo Halo' in 2020. However, he rose to limelight with the hit single ‘Earth Song’ which was released in December 2022. In 2023, he won awards at The Headies and the Galaxy Music Awards.

Israel Ehinomen Okosun known by the stage name Ehis D’Greatest is a Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter. He gained popularity with the song “This Year (Blessings)” released in January 2023. The song topped the Billboard Charts and went on to appear as No. 1 on the Official Charts in the United Kingdom.
