Anthony Ebuka Victor (born 5 January 2001), known professionally as Victony, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper. [1] He was born in Ojo, Lagos, he hails from the Orsu local government area of Imo State. [2] He was influenced while growing up by artists such as Davido, Wizkid, Mi, and Falz. Victony began his musical journey in 2016 as a rapper on soundcloud, releasing freestyles and mixes. He released a debut studio album Saturn, in August 2020. He released his first single titled Ina Benz, which was his first appearance in the music industry. [3]

In 2022, Victony released "Soweto" featuring Tempoe as the debut single off his Outlaw EP. It gained traction on Tiktok and a remix featuring Rema and Don Toliver charted in the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Switzerland and Canada. [4]

In June 2024, Victony released his second studio album, Stubborn. The album, characterized by its experimental sound and lyrical depth, has been praised for showcasing his growth as an artist. Stubborn includes a blend of Afrobeats, hip hop, and R&B, with tracks that explore themes of love, resilience, and identity.

Early life and career

Victony first came to the scene when he traded rap verses with Ladipoe on his revival Sunday series. He made his debut with a mixtape on SoundCloud titled The Outlaw King, the reason he is still known as "The Outlaw King". [5]

The mixtape was followed by covers of international hit records like "Bodak Yellow" by Cardi B, [6] "Moonlight" by XXXTentacion, [7] and "On the Low" by Burna Boy. [8] [9] Victony started off as a rapper but later switched and started releasing R&B, trap music, and Afropop records. [10] [11] 2021 started with his record "Pray" gaining traction, a song that was released after he was in a car crash. He got his biggest break in October 2021 when he teamed up with Mayorkun on the song "Holy Father". [12] The song was number one on Apple Music Nigeria and peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Top Triller Global charts in December 2021. [13] He later collaborated with Grammy Award-winning producer Rexxie on an EP called Nataraja. [14] [15]

Outlaw EP and Stubborn

6 May 2022, Victony released the seven-track EP "Outlaw". It was mostly successful, with it comprising the hit songs "Soweto" featuring Tempoe, "All Power," and "Kolomental."

He later released a handful of songs and also appeared in features including "Babylon," "Ohema," "Hypnotize," "Different Size," "Jaga Jaga," "My Darling," and "Angelus." "Stubborn" and "Everything" were released in February and May of 2024 respectively, with the latter including a sample of the song "sunflower" by Post Malone and Swae Lee. The two songs would later be included in his forth coming album.

"Stubborn" the album was released on 21 June 2024, to much positive critical acclaim. It comprised 14 tracks with features from Saint Jhn, Shallipopi, Kzito, Asake, teezo touchdown, shorae Moore.

Personal life

He graduated from the Federal university of Technology Owerri (F.U.T.O), where he studied petroleum engineering. [16] [17] On 21 April 2021, Victony was involved in a fatal car crash. [18] The crash claimed the life of one of his friends, Doyin, [19] and he needed surgery. [20] [21]

Victony remained on a wheelchair after the surgery, [22] but stood to perform for the first time alongside Davido and Mayorkun on 24 December 2021. [23] [24] [25]

KDDO is the first Afrobeats producer in history to be certified by the Recording Industry Association of America, after Fall became a certified gold record in the US. Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, known professionally as Mayorkun, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, pianist and dancer. He released a cover of Davido's "The Money" single and was discovered by the singer on Twitter. Mayorkun was signed to Davido's record label DMW from 2016 to 2021; his debut single "Eleko" was released under the label. Mayorkun released his debut studio album The Mayor of Lagos in November 2018. After his exit from DMW in 2021; he released "Let Me Know" and his second studio album Back In Office in October 2021, under the Sony Music West Africa division.

Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper. He gained recognition with his 2019 song "Dumebi". That same year, he signed with D'Prince's record label, Jonzing World. He achieved international recognition with his 2022 single "Calm Down", which spawned a remix with American singer Selena Gomez that peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also led Billboard Afrobeats Songs chart for a record-setting 58 weeks.

Afrobeats, not to be confused with Afrobeat or Afroswing, is an umbrella term to describe popular music from West Africa and the diaspora that initially developed in Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK in the 2000s and 2010s. Afrobeats is less of a style per se, and more of a descriptor for the fusion of sounds flowing out of Nigeria and Ghana. Genres such as hiplife, jùjú music, highlife, azonto music, and naija beats, among others, were amalgamated under the "Afrobeats" umbrella.

The Mayor of Lagos is the debut studio album by Nigerian singer Mayorkun. It was released on November 16, 2018, through Davido Music Worldwide. The album's production was handled by Speroach Beatz, Cracker Mallo, Fresh VDM, Kiddominant, DJ Coublon, Phantom, Northboi, Killertunes and Lussh. Mayorkun enlisted Davido, Sarkodie, D'banj, Patoranking and other label mates to appear as guest artists on the album. Preceding the album's release were five singles: "Mama", "Che Che", "Bobo", "Fantasy" and "Posh". The album won Best R&B/Pop Album at The Headies 2019.

"Soweto" is a 2022 song by Nigerian singer Victony and producer Tempoe. It was released as the first single from Victony's second extended play Outlaw. It gained popularity on Tiktok and charted across the United Kingdom, Canada, Netherlands and Switzerland. A remix featuring Omah Lay was released before a second remix with Rema and Don Toliver was released propelling the song further.

"Unavailable" is a song by Nigerian singer Davido. It features vocals by South African singer Musa Keys and was released on 11 April 2023, as the second single his fourth studio album Timeless (2023). "Unavailable" peaked at number 1 on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart for five weeks and reached number 3 on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart. On 12 May 2023, Davido released an extended play of five remixed versions of the track. "Unavailable" was nominated at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards for Best African Music Performance.

Crown Uzama, known professionally as Shallipopi, is a Nigerian singer, rapper, and songwriter. He gained recognition in 2023 with the release of his single, "Elon Musk". He followed up with the extended play Planet Pluto (2023). His debut studio album, Presido La Pluto, released in 2023, was met with commercial success, debuting at number 1 on the TurnTable Top 50. Production was handled by Ktizo, Tempoe, Blaisebeatz, P.Priime, Dëra, Frank Moses, and Blind. The album housed the singles "Apollo," "Kolomental," and "Soweto."
