Magnolia Way, officially designated as Mississippi Highway 780 (MS 780), is a short unsigned state highway in northeastern Mississippi. The road starts at County Road 203 (CR 203), and travels southeastward as a frontage road of the concurrence of Interstate 22 (I-22) and U.S. Route 78 (US 78). It intersects the entrance of the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi (TMMMS), located near Blue Springs. Magnolia Way ends at its intersection with MS 9 south of Sherman. Construction of the road began in 2007 to serve TMMMS, and it opened on August 24, 2009, two years before the manufacturing plant opened.

The road is located in Union and Pontotoc counties. [3] [4] All of the route is maintained by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), as part of the Mississippi State Highway System. [1] Although the MS 780 designation appears on MDOT published maps, [3] [4] the designation does not appear on any reassurance marker on either terminus of the road. [5] [6]

West of the village of Blue Springs, Magnolia Way starts at CR 203 of Union County, and begins travelling southeastward. Surrounded by forests, the road parallels the concurrence of I-22 and US 78, acting as a frontage road for the highway. [3] About one-half mile (0.80 km) later, the road travels under a railroad coming from TMMMS and transitions into a four-lane road. Magnolia Way shifts southward near the I-22/US 78-MS 9 interchange, then intersects another frontage road leading to the entrance to the manufacturing plant. It is followed by a connector to MS 9 and the partial cloverleaf interchange to I-22 and US 78. It intersects Corolla Lane (CR 207) east of the plant and shifts eastward, closer to the interstate highway. The road intersects Line Road, [7] and enters Pontotoc County. [3] Magnolia Way enters the corporate limits of the town of Sherman, and travels southward afterwards, turning away from the triplex I-22, US 78 and MS 9. It crosses Town Creek and gently curves eastward out of the town. The road then ends at a three-way junction at MS 9 outside of Sherman, south of its interchange with I-22 and US 78. [4]

History

In March 2007, the Mississippi Legislature passed a $323.9 million incentive package for worker training, site construction, and infrastructure improvements, after Toyota announced its plans to build a manufacturing plant near Blue Springs. [8] A fraction of the package, $43 million, was used to construct new roads and improve existing ones in the area to accommodate the new plant. The project to construct Magnolia Way started soon after the package was approved, and the road opened on August 24, 2009, ahead of schedule. [9] The manufacturing plant produced its first vehicle in November 2011, [10] after an economic downturn caused construction to cease from 2008 to 2010. [11]

Mississippi Highway 69 is a state highway in eastern Mississippi. The route starts at the Alabama state line, and travels northwestward to Columbus. MS 69 then goes through downtown Columbus, and ends at U.S. Route 45 and US 82 in the west side of the town. Before the road was designated as MS 69 in 1941, it was a gravel road from Columbus to the state line. The road was paved in asphalt in 1953. In 1992, US 82 was realigned, and MS 69 was extended through Columbus to its current northern terminus.

Mississippi Highway 364 is a state highway in northeastern Mississippi, separated in two segments. The route starts at MS 30 southeast of Booneville and travels northeastward. The road travels through Altitude and ends at MS 365 in Cairo. The other segment begins in Holcut and travels eastward to its terminus at MS 25 at Midway. The route was designated in 1950, from a former segment of MS 30 between MS 365 and MS 25. The route was extended southwestwards to MS 30 around 1960, and the highway was completely paved by 1984. The section of MS 364 near the Tennessee–Tombigbee Waterway were removed by the same year, and another section from MS 365 to the waterway was removed ten years later.

Mississippi Highway 9 in the Appalachian Foothills region of northeastern Mississippi, running north–south from MS 30 east of New Albany to MS 12 in Ackerman. It runs approximately 116 miles (187 km), serving Choctaw, Webster, Calhoun, Pontotoc, and Union counties. MS 9W veers off to the left in a curve just about 2 miles north of Bruce. It goes north north-west until it merges with MS 7 just south of Oxford.

Mississippi Highway 469 is a state highway in central Mississippi, located in Simpson and Rankin counties. The route starts at MS 28 near Georgetown, and it travels north through western Simpson County. The road enters the community of Harrisville and enters Rankin County soon after. It intersects U.S. Route 49 in Florence, and it ends at MS 468 near Whitfield. The route was designated in 1953, and it was extended southwards to MS 20 in 1956. By 1960, all of the route was paved with asphalt.

Mississippi Highway 306 is a state highway in northern Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 51 in Coldwater, and it travels eastward to an interchange at Interstate 55 (I-55) on the northern edge of the town. The road continues eastward across northern Tate County and ends at MS 305 near Independence. MS 306 was designated in 1952, and it was constructed in 1953 from US 51 to MS 305. The route was paved in asphalt by 1956, and an interchange was built at I-55 by 1967.

Nissan Parkway is a short divided highway in central Mississippi. The road starts at Mississippi Highway 22. It travels east to an interchange with Interstate 55 (I-55) and intersects a road leading to a Nissan assembly plant. The parkway then continues eastward to its eastern terminus at U.S. Route 51 and MS 16. Nissan Parkway was constructed in 2002 from MS 22 to I-55, after being proposed in one year before. The road was extended to its current eastern terminus by 2003.

Mississippi Highway 37 is a state highway in central Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 84 near Collins. The road first existed as part of MS 35, and it became a spur route of MS 35 by 1941. It was renumbered as MS 37 by 1950, and fully paved by 1952.

Mississippi Highway 41 (MS 41) is a state highway in northeastern Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 45 and US 278 north of Wren and travels westwards. It then intersects US 45 Alt. east of Okolona. The road enters Okolona, and intersects MS 32 and MS 245. MS 41 then turns northwest and travels toward Pontotoc. Once inside the city, the route turns north at MS 15 and travels through downtown Pontotoc. MS 41 ends at its intersection with MS 9 and MS 338. The route that became MS 41 was first used as an Indian trail. The route was designated by 1932 from Amory to Pontotoc, and it was truncated from Amory to US 45 by 1955. The entirety of MS 41 was paved by 1958.

It continues through Amite County and it ends at U.S. Route 98 in extreme southwestern Lincoln County.

MS 438 continues eastward and ends at Sunflower River Road and Kinlock Road on the Washington–Sunflower county line near Kinlock. The route was constructed around 1950, connecting from MS 1 to US 61. The route was extended to the Washington–Sunflower county line by 1958, and to US 49W in Inverness by 1960. The section east of the county line was removed from the route by 1974.

Mississippi Highway 434 is a short state highway in western Mississippi. The route travels from U.S. Route 61 near Nitta Yuma and travels eastward. After crossing a creek, the road travels northeastward and enters Delta City, and the route ends inside the unincorporated community. The route was constructed around 1951, connecting from US 61 to Delta City. An extension along a county road to US 49W existed from 1957 to 1967.

Mississippi Highway 436 is a state highway in western Mississippi. The route starts at Eastside Lake Washington Road in Glen Allan and travels eastward. The road intersects MS 1 in Hampton and turns northeastward. It ends near Percy at U.S. Route 61. MS 436 was designated in 1957, along a road from US 61 to a point near the Washington–Sharkey county line. The route was extended westward to Glen Allan along a state-maintained road in 1958, and also eastward to Belzoni via a county road in 1967. The route east of US 61 was decommissioned by 1967.

Mississippi Highway 826 is a short state highway in western Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 61 south of Rolling Fork. The road then travels northward through farmland, and MS 826 ends at its intersection with MS 14, west of the town. The road was constructed in 1955 to bypass Rolling Fork, and the route was designated around 1957, after a proposal by Sharkey County to transfer the road to state maintenance.

The road was constructed around 1951 from MS 45W west of Prairie to US 45 in Aberdeen, and it was designated by 1958. The eastern terminus was changed to MS 25 from US 45 by 1967.

A portion of the route east of Matherville was removed from the state highway system in 1999.

The route was designated around 1956, from MS 15 to MS 503, and has not changed significantly since.

Mississippi Highway 462 is a state highway in western Mississippi. The route starts at U.S. Route 61 near Port Gibson, and it travels eastward. MS 462 was designated around 1958, as a gravel road extending eastward from US 61 near Port Gibson. The road was extended to MS 461 from 1960 to 1963, then to the Natchez Trace Parkway from 1967 to 1998.

The route was designated around 1953, after a gravel road from US 84 to US 98, which had existed since 1928, was paved.
