Mahatma Gandhi Road (MG Road), popularly known as Bandar Road, is a boulevard and major road in the Indian city of Vijayawada.The road starts at Benz Circle, busiest traffic circle in the city and continues to Avatar Park, where it connects to Eluru Road which is also a major road. It runs almost parallel to the Bandar Canal. The National Highway 9 (NH 9) runs parallel to this road on the other side of the Bandar Canal, merging into Bandar Road at Benz Circle. The name "Bandar" was originally the name of Machilipatnam Road, which the current Bandar Road intersects.[ citation needed ]
Its official name comes from Mahatma Gandhi, the inspirational leader of the Indian Independence Movement in the early twentieth century.[ citation needed ]
Bandar Road's has an average width of 100 feet (30 m) although it is not of uniform width throughout. [1] [2] This road's creation altered the landscape of Vijayawada and was the catalyst for the erection of Multiplexes and the Prominent Building.
MG Road in Vijayawada is home to the Golden Mile Project, India’s first smart street initiative. Covering a 2.9 km stretch from the Police Control Room to Benz Circle, it was launched as a Proof of Concept for the Smart City initiative by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. [3] Supported by Cisco Systems, the project provides facilities such as free Wi-Fi, intelligent street lighting, smart parking, and digital kiosks. The total cost of ₹7.83 crore was shared between Cisco, the Andhra Pradesh Urban Finance & Infrastructure Development Corporation, and the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. The project enables real-time monitoring through the City Digital Platform at the municipal office. [4] It includes 101 surveillance cameras, with some capable of calculating traffic density and providing live reports. Additionally, 35 Wi-Fi access points and 240 smart solar-powered lights were installed for public use. Parking sensors help reduce congestion, and motion sensors manage traffic and detect violations. The project also introduced Remote Expert Government Services, allowing citizens to communicate with officials via video calls. [5]
MG road is the highly influential road in the city both culturally and economically. It is the destination for the city people for fun and entertainment because of its high end shopping malls, theaters, hotels, restaurants, food courts and cafes. It is also seat of Collector Office, Vijayawada. [6] Indira Gandhi Stadium, Bapu Museum, Swaraj Maidan (PWD Grounds) are located on this road. Since December 2014, a midnight food court is organised on this road near Indira Gandhi Stadium until 2:30 am. [7] [8] and film theaters operate until 2 am[ citation needed ], which results in crowd flow whole day. Many events in the city happens on this road like Happy Sunday [9] and other people gatherings, marathons. City exhibition, Book Festival [10] [11] and other premium events are organised in PWD Grounds every year.
In December 2005, Vijayawada city officials decided to widen the road to 120 feet (37 m) without warning. This decision involved the immediate demolition of one wall of the Akashvani (All India Air) radio station and a neighboring bus shelter. The radio station, given no forewarning of this road expansion prior to the project's initiation, requested that the council order monetary compensation for the property's 411 yards (376 m) subsequent devaluation; and immediate reconstruction of the demolished wall. Mahatma Gandhi Road is an elevated metro station on the East-West corridor of the Purple Line of Namma Metro in Bangalore, India. It was constructed by Punj Lloyd and opened to the public on 20 October 2011. The station MG Road has a bicycle stand next to the Urban Square, from where commuters can rent cycles. This metro station will serve as Namma Metro's 2nd interchange station after Majestic metro station for the upcoming Pink Line.

The stretch from Police Control room to Benz Circle of length 2.9 km was selected for this project. It was selected as a Proof of Concept for smart city initiative of Government of Andhra Pradesh. The project was supported by Cisco Systems and was formally approved after 2 years on 2015. This project provides facilities like free Wi-Fi, Intelligent street lighting, smart parking Facility, Smart kiosks and connected transport on M.G. Road. All the equipment can be controlled and monitored by City Digital Platform (CDP) in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation office. It costs around ₹7.83 crore of which CISCO provides all the expertise and components worth ₹3.81 crore. Andhra Pradesh Urban Finance & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited shares ₹3 crore and VMC shares ₹62 lakh.
The Kanakadurga Flyover is a flyover spanning the Krishna River and Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada, India. As of 2022, it is the longest flyover in Andhra Pradesh with a length of 2.6 kilometres (1.6 mi). It was opened on 16 October 2020 by Nitin Gadkari.
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is in charge of the civic administration and infrastructure of the city of Vijayawada. The corporation was formed in 1981 by upgrading from municipality status. Many other neighbourhoods were later merged into the corporation limits to a total area of 61.88 km2 (23.89 sq mi), located in Krishna district. It is adjoined by the Legislative capital of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati. It was also been part of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation is divided into 77 wards. Each ward is headed by a corporator, elected by popular vote. The corporators elect The City Mayor who is the titular head of the corporation. Its executive powers lie with the Municipal Commissioner appointed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission monitors the municipal elections that are held in the city once in every five years. The last elections were held on 10 March 2021.
Supreme Court Museum is the museum dedicated to the journey of judiciary in India along with the federal court and supreme court. The museum houses objects like the Harappan seals, Ashokan Edit, Nalanda Copper Plate and also items on Indian legal system during British Raj. Many souvenirs and files that are associated with landmark judgement are also a part of the museum. The idea of the museum was of former Chief Justice Of India, M N Venkatachaliah (1994). However, the idea could only be materialised after 10 years. The museum reported having around 1500 items in 2020.
