Majapahit is a passenger train with the economy new generation that is operated by Kereta Api Indonesia which between Pasar Senen and Malang via Semarang Tawang and Solo Jebres. The trip will time around 880 km (550 mil) in 12 hours 57 minutes.
This train also support for the Matarmaja train but difference schedule and stop stations.
The name Majapahit comes from one of the kingdoms with the center of government in East Java, Majapahit Empire, which existed from around 1293 to 1500. This kingdom reached the peak of its glory when it succeeded in controlling several regions in the Nusantara during the territorial power of Hayam Wuruk.
Initially, there was a train service called "Senja Kediri" which was launched on 5 December 2009, which served the Kediri–Pasar Senen return route via Semarang, using business class train sets. [1] On 23 December 2009, the railway service was extended to Tulungagung, then extended again to Malang on 1 July 2011—previously a trial run was carried out since 27 June 2011. [2]
Along with the enactment of new train travel chart 2012 on 1 March 2012, the name of the Senja Kediri train was changed to "Senja Singosari".
Then this train experienced a downgrade and name change on 21 September 2012, to "Majapahit" with economy plus class service with 80 seats per train.
Since 25 March 2024, the Majapahit train using a 2024 stainless steel type economy train manufactured by PT INKA, consisting of one baggage car, eight economy cars, one dining car, and one power car. [3]
A significant change in this latest economy class train is the seating capacity, which has been reduced from 80 long seats to 72 captain seats, which can recline and rotate according to the train's direction. Each train is equipped with information screens displaying important data, such as the nearest station, speed, and room temperature, to enhance the passenger experience.
To meet device charging needs, each seat is equipped with a USB charging port and a wall outlet.
