Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is a standard aptitude test conducted in India since 1998 by the All India Management Association (AIMA). MAT is used for admission to Master of Business Administration (MBA) and allied programmes by over 600 business schools across India. It was approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2003. [1]

Format

Candidates can choose to take either a paper-based or a computer-based test. It is conducted in either English or Hindi. Eligibility is for graduates in any discipline, though final year students of graduate courses can also apply. [1] The test is offered four times in a year in February, May, September and December. [2] The cost of admission was 1,400 (US$20) in 2017 and the test scores are valid for one year. [2]

The tests includes 200 questions, 40 in each subject: language comprehension, mathematical skills, data analysis and sufficiency, intelligence and critical reasoning, and Indian and global environment. Time allotted is 150 minutes. [2]

The Graduate Management Admission Test is a computer adaptive test (CAT) intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA program. It requires knowledge of certain specific grammar and knowledge of certain specific algebra, geometry, and arithmetic. The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer based test for admission in a graduate management program. The test consists of three sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability (QA). The exam is taken online over a period of three hours, with one hour per section. In 2020, due to the COVID precautions, IIM Indore decided to conducted the CAT Exam in 2 hours with 40 minutes devoted to each section. The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) started this exam and use the test for selecting students for their business administration programs. The test is conducted every year by one of the IIMs based on a policy of rotation.

All India Management Association Indian non-profit organization

All India Management Association (AIMA) is a national apex body of the management profession in India. It is based on a federation of 67 Local Management Associations (LMAs) including Qatar Indian Management Association and Mauritius Management Association. It was established in 1957. Among its activities, AIMA conducts the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) used by over 600 business schools across India, is represented in national forums and organisations and awards annual awards.

The Policy Aptitude Test (PAT) is an offline written test held in India. This test scores a person on the bases of General Knowledge, Numerical Problem Solving, Policy Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, English Language and Policy Analysis Ability. The National Law School of India University, Bengaluru (NLSIU) started this exam and use the test for selecting students for its Public Policy Programme. The test is conducted every year.

National Testing Agency (NTA) is an Indian government agency that has been approved by the Union Council of Ministers and established in November 2017 to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions. The government appointed Vineet Joshi as the first Director-General of the agency. NTA is responsible for conducting the Joint Entrance Examination – Main, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test -Undergraduate, National Eligibility Test (NET), Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) and Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT).
