Combined Medical Services Examination

The Combined Medical Services Examination or the CMS Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment as Medical Officer in various organizations such as the Central Health Service (CHS), Indian Ordnance Factories, Indian Railways, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council functioning under the Government of India. The Notification for the examination is usually released in the month of April and examination is conducted in the month of July. Successful candidates are admitted after an interview also known as Personality test (PT) conducted by the UPSC for those who have qualified the written examination.

Scheme of Examination

There is an objective-type written examination with two papers of two hours duration, each carrying a maximum of 250 marks. This is followed by a Personality Test carrying 100 marks of candidates who qualify on the results of the written examination.

Candidates who qualify in the written examination are called for an Interview/Personality Test to be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission which carries 100 marks. [2]

Some civil servants may, later in their career, also serve the centre on deputation. Officers of these three services comply to the All India Services Rules relating to pay, conduct, leave, various allowances etc.

The Medical Council of India Screening Test, also known as the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), is a licensure examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in India. The test is one of the mandatory requirements for an Indian citizen who has a medical degree from a college outside India to practice medicine in the country.. The screening test was introduced in 2002 as a qualifying examination for Indian students obtaining their medical degrees from countries other than India, such as countries belonging to the former Soviet Union, Eastern European countries, China, Nepal, Philippines, and Caribbean countries. Indian doctors holding basic medical degrees from the above countries have to take the MCI screening test. The Medical School should have been listed in the WHO international directory of Medical Schools. To face the shortage of Indian Police Service officers in India as a result the high attrition in the Indian Police Service, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed the formation of Indian Police Service Limited Competitive Examination to be conducted by UPSC. IPS Limited Competitive Examination was held for the first time in 2012. This is in addition to the Civil Services Examination conducted by UPSC itself, for recruitment to the various civil services including Indian Police Service.The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has struck down the examination following the challenge by some state cadre police officers. Consequent to the CAT verdict, UPSC has withheld the declaration of final results of 2012 examination. Now, the Ministry of Home Affairs is trying to sort out the legal matters as soon as possible.

The BCS Examination is a nationwide competitive examination in Bangladesh conducted by the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) for recruitment to the various Bangladesh Civil Service cadres, including BCS (Administration), BCS, BCS (Taxation), BCS, BCS, and BCS (Police) among others. The examination is conducted in three phases - the preliminary examination, the written examination and the viva voice. Candidates appear for different courses to pass those exam phases.
