Octavious Mangaliso Matika is a South African politician who has served as the Deputy Speaker of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. [1] He took office as an MPL in October 2018. [2] He was previously the Executive Mayor of the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality. [3] Matika is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).

Plaatje was a founder member and first General Secretary of the South African Native National Congress (SANNC), which became the African National Congress (ANC). The Sol Plaatje Local Municipality, which includes the city of Kimberley, is named after him, as is the Sol Plaatje University in that city, which opened its doors in 2014.

The Northern Cape Provincial Legislature is the legislature of the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It is a unicameral body of 30 members elected every five years. The current legislature was elected on 8 May 2019 and has an African National Congress majority of 18 members. It is situated in Kimberley, in a newly built complex to the west of the city centre on the edge of Galeshewe.

Within the Northern Cape provincial government, he served the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison from 2009 to 2013, and was the MEC for Environment and Nature Conservation between 2013 and 2014.

Koloi was previously the Executive Mayor of the Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality.
