Abraham Vosloo (born 21 October 1966) is a South African educator and politician from the Northern Cape serving as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Finance,Economic Development and Tourism since June 2020. He has been a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. He was the MEC for Roads and Public Works from May 2019 until June 2020. Vosloo was previously the Executive Mayor of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality. He is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).
Vosloo was born on 21 October 1966 in Askham,Cape Province. He completed his secondary education at Carlton Van Heerden High School in Upington in 1985. [1] Vosloo went on to achieve a teacher's diploma and a high diploma from the Perseverance School in Kimberley. [1]
Vosloo worked as a teacher at JJ Adams Primary School in his home town from 1990 to 1991. [1] He was then employed at the Rosendal Primary School in Upington from 1992 until his appointment as a shop steward at SADTU. [1] He was appointed the director of corporate services at the //Khara Hais Local Municipality in 2005;he held the post until 2012. In 2012,Vosloo was selected as municipal manager of the Kai ǃGarib Local Municipality. [1] From 2013 to 2014,he served as the chair of the African National Congress in the ZF Mgcawu region. Vosloo was elected speaker of the district municipality in 2014. [1] The next year,he was elected mayor of the municipality. [1]
After the 2019 general election held on 8 May,he was nominated to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature. He was sworn in as a member on 22 May 2019. On 29 May 2019,Vosloo was appointed Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Roads and Public Works,succeeding Mxolisa Sokatsha. [2] On 26 June 2020,Vosloo was moved to the Finance,Economic Development and Tourism portfolio of the Executive Council. He succeeded Maruping Lekwene,while Fufe Makatong succeeded him as Public Works MEC. [3]
In October 2020,Vosloo stated that the agricultural sector in the Northern Cape had lost almost 10,000 jobs. He also stated that this could be due to seasonal factors and the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions. [4]
In December 2020,Vosloo was hospitalised with COVID-19. [5] He soon recovered in early-January 2021. His wife,Maria Minneth Vosloo,died due to complications from the virus on 23 January 2021. [6]
The ZF Mgcawu District Municipality,known before 1 July 2013 as the Siyanda District Municipality,is one of the 5 districts of the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The seat of the municipality is Upington. As of 2011,the majority (76%) of its 236,783 residents speak Afrikaans. The district code is DC8.
Hazel Gertrude Jenkins is a South African politician and former Premier of the Northern Cape province. She served as Premier from May 2009 until she officially stood down in April 2013,following a stroke. The motion to recognise her stepping down as Premier was defeated in a vote by the legislature on 30 April 2013 so that technically Jenkins remained Premier. Hence Sylvia Lucas was sworn in on 30 April not as Jenkins' successor but as Acting Premier. Jenkins subsequently resigned,as of 22 May 2013,paving the way for Lucas to be sworn in as her successoron 23 May 2013.
The Northern Cape province of South Africa is governed in a parliamentary system in which the people elect the provincial legislature and the legislature,in turn,elects the Premier as head of the executive. The Premier leads an Executive Council consisting of members who oversee various executive departments. The structure of the provincial government is defined by chapter six of the Constitution of South Africa.
Sylvia Elizabeth Lucas is the current Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces in the Republic of South Africa,after having taken office on 23 May 2019. From 2013 to 2019,she served as the 4th Premier of the Northern Cape Province. She was elected and inaugurated as the successor to Hazel Jenkins. Lucas briefly served as acting premier and before her appointment,as the MEC for Environmental Affairs in the Northern Cape Provincial Government.
Zwelentlanga Fatman Mgcawu,commonly known as Fatman,was born and grew up in Pabalello,Upington,South Africa,becoming Upington's first black mayor in the first post-1994 local government elections. In 2013 the erstwhile Siyanda District Municipality in the Northern Cape,with Upington as its administrative centre,was renamed ZF Mgcawu District Municipality. Mgcawu died in July 2001.
John Fikile Block was the Provincial Chairman of the African National Congress in the Northern Cape Province,South Africa,and was a Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Finance,Economic Development and Tourism in the Northern Cape Provincial Government. Block was found guilty of fraud,corruption and money laundering by the Northern Cape High Court in 2015. In December 2016 he was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment.
Maruping Matthews Lekwene is a South African politician serving as the Northern Cape MEC for Health since June 2020. He has been a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress (ANC) since June 2014. He was the Northern Cape MEC for Finance,Economic Development and Tourism from May 2019 until June 2020. Lekwene is also the provincial chairperson of the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the ANC's deputy provincial secretary.
McCollen Ntsikelelo Jack,known as Mac Jack,was a South African educator and politician. A member of the African National Congress,Jack was appointed to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in June 2013. He served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Transport,Safety and Liaison from June 2013 until May 2014,when he was appointed the MEC for Health. Following a cabinet reshuffle in March 2016,he was appointed the MEC for Finance,Economic Development and Tourism. Jack held the position until his appointment as MEC for Education in May 2019,despite him briefly being demoted from the Executive Council in May 2017.
Solomon Patrick Mabilo is a South African politician from the Northern Cape who served as the Executive Mayor of the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality from 2018 to 2021. A member of the African National Congress (ANC),he served as a Member of the National Assembly from 2014 to 2017. He was a Member of Northern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2014 and again in 2018. Within the Northern Cape provincial government,he served as the MEC for Transport,Safety and Liaison from 2009 to 2013,and was the MEC for Environment and Nature Conservation between 2013 and 2014.
Gift van Staden is a South African politician who serves as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress (ANC). He was the provincial MEC for Social Development from 2016 to 2019. Prior to serving in the legislature,he was the Executive Mayor of both the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality and the Khara Hais Local Municipality. He is a former business associate of John Block.
Mxolisa Simon Sokatsha was a South African accountant,educator and politician. A member of the African National Congress,he was a Member of the Executive Council in the Northern Cape from 2009 to 2019 and a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2003 to 2019. In 2019 he was elected to the South African National Assembly.
Cukelwa Magdeline Chotelo,known as Tiny Chotelo,is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,she was elected to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2009. In 2013 she was appointed Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development. She was appointed MEC for Nature Conservation and Environmental Affairs in 2014. Chotelo was demoted from the Executive Council in 2018 and left the legislature in 2019.
Lebogang James Motlhaping is a South African politician from the Northern Cape. He was the Member of the Executive Council for Transport,Safety and Liaison from 2018 to 2019,the MEC for Health from 2016 to 2018,and the MEC for Sports,Arts and Culture from 2014 to 2016. He was a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2014 to 2019. Motlhaping is a member of the African National Congress.
Zolile Monakali is a South African educator and politician who has served as the Northern Cape MEC for Education since 16 September 2020. He was sworn in as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature on 8 September. Prior to serving in the provincial government,he was the Executive Mayor of the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality. Monakali is a member of the African National Congress and the party's Pixley ka Seme regional chairperson.
Petrus Simon "Pat" Ngomane is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,he was elected to the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature in May 2014. He served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Community Safety,Security and Liaison from August 2016 until May 2019,when he was appointed MEC for Finance,Economic Development and Tourism. Ngomane served in the position until an executive council reshuffle in February 2021.

He had previously been the MEC for Economic,Small Business Development,Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) from May 2019 until March 2023. Pauline Jeanette Williams is a retired South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,she was elected to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2004. In 2009,she was appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sport,Arts and Culture. She left the legislature in 2014,only for her to return in 2015. She was then made MEC for Transport,Liaison and Safety in 2016. Williams was briefly out of the post in May 2017. In February 2018,she was made the MEC for Environmental Affairs. Williams left the legislature again in 2019.
Jacobus Frederick van Wyk,also sometimes referred to as Boeboe van Wyk,was a South African politician who was a member of the National Assembly from 1997 to 2004,member of the Executive Council in the Northern Cape government from 2004 to 2009,member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2004 to 2013,speaker of the provincial legislature from 2009 to 2013,and mayor of the Nama Khoi Local Municipality from 2013 to 2016. Van Wyk was a member of the African National Congress.
Sakhumzi Stoffels Somyo is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,he was elected to the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in 2014. He was then appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible for the Finance,Economic Development,Environment and Tourism portfolio. In 2018,he was fired as an MEC. Somyo was elected to Parliament in 2019. Soon after,he was elected Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Auditor General.
