Reinette Liebenberg is a South African politician, who was elected to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in the 2019 general election. She is one of eight Democratic Alliance representatives in the provincial legislature. Liebenberg was a councillor of the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality before she was elected to the provincial legislature.

Political career

Liebenberg is a member of the Democratic Alliance. She was re-elected as a councillor of the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality in August 2016. [1] In 2018, Liebenberg criticised the African National Congress for electing Patrick Mabilo as Sol Plaatje mayor. [2]

At the election that was held on 8 May 2019, Liebenberg was elected to the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature. [3] She was sworn in as an MPL on 22 May 2019. [4] She is the DA's spokesperson for agriculture, land reform, rural development and nature conservation. [5]

Liebenberg is married to Chris Liebenberg, who is the DA's former provincial leader. [1]

The 2021 South African Municipal Elections were held on 1 November 2021, to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. Being the 6th municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994. These held - since then -every five years. The previous municipal elections were held in 2016. On 21 April 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the elections to be held on Wednesday, 27 October 2021. It had been recommend by Dikgang Moseneke to delay the municipal elections until 2022. The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) requested the Constitutional Court to support the date postponement. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supported the date postponement while the Democratic Alliance (DA) was against the postponement of the date. The Constitutional Court dismissed the application to postpone the date until 2022, ruling that they had to take place between 27 October and 1 November. On 9 September 2021, the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma announced that the elections would be held on 1 November.

Octavious Mangaliso Matika is a South African politician who has served as the Deputy Speaker of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature since May 2019. He took office as an MPL in October 2018. He was previously the Executive Mayor of the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality. Matika is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).

Priscilla Serina Johanna Isaacs is a South African politician serving as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature for the Democratic Alliance (DA). She took office as a Member on 22 May 2019. Isaacs was a PR councillor of the Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality, prior to her election to the provincial legislature.

Solomon Patrick Mabilo is a South African politician from the Northern Cape who served as the Executive Mayor of the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality from 2018 to 2021. The Sol Plaatje Local Municipality council consists of sixty-five members elected by mixed-member proportional representation. Thirty-three councillors are elected by first-past-the-post voting in thirty-three wards, while the remaining thirty-two are chosen from party lists so that the total number of party representatives is proportional to the number of votes received. In the election of 1 November 2021 the African National Congress (ANC) won a majority of thirty-three seats

Makhi Feni is a South African politician from the Eastern Cape. He has represented the African National Congress in the National Council of Provinces since June 2024. He is the chairperson of the Select Committee on Education, Sciences and Creative Industries.
