Gift van Staden (born 15 July 1962) is a South African politician who serves as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress (ANC). He was the provincial MEC for Social Development from 2016 to 2019. Prior to serving in the legislature, he was the Executive Mayor of both the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality and the Khara Hais Local Municipality. He is a former business associate of John Block.
Van Staden was the chair of a civic movement in the Prieska sub-region in the 1980s. In the 1990s, he was involved with the relaunch of two ANC branches. He served as the chair of the ANC's branch in Prieska for two terms. [1]
Van Staden was a founding member of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU). He soon worked as a site steward at the Gariep High School in Prieska. He was elected to the Prieska transitional council and was appointed deputy mayor. [1]
Before long, he moved to Upington and left formal politics for two years. Following his return, he was elected chairperson of the ANC's Rosedale branch. [1]
In 2000, Van Staden was elected mayor of the Khara Hais Local Municipality. He was elected to ANC regional executive committee in 2001. He served as chairperson of the regional executive committee from 2006 until 2015. [1]
Van Staden was elected mayor of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality in 2011. He was sworn in as an MPL in October 2015. [1]
In March 2016, premier Sylvia Lucas appointed Van Staden MEC for Social Development, succeeding Mxolisa Sokatsha. [2] [3]
Van Staden was not included in newly elected premier Zamani Saul's Executive Council. He was, however, appointed the legislature's chair of chairs and the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform, Rural Development, Environment and Conservation.
Van Staden is a former business partner of John Block. He was implicated in an investigation regarding his business links to Block involving the lease of municipal properties in Upington. Block's company had debts amounting to R160,000. These debts were written off by the Upington municipal council when Van Staden served as mayor. [3] Van Staden and Block were also involved in a salt mine, SA Soutwerke. [4]
//Khara Hais Local Municipality was a local municipality in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. It fell within the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality and governs the town of Upington and surrounding rural areas. As of 2011 it the municipality has a population of approximately 93,500 people, and covers an area of 21,780 square kilometres (8,410 sq mi). The unusual spelling of the name comes from the original transcription of the Khwe language name, where the click consonant became "//".

Sylvia Elizabeth Lucas is the current Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces in the Republic of South Africa, after having taken office on 23 May 2019. From 2013 to 2019, she served as the 4th Premier of the Northern Cape Province. She was elected and inaugurated as the successor to Hazel Jenkins. Lucas briefly served as acting premier and before her appointment, as the MEC for Environmental Affairs in the Northern Cape Provincial Government.
Sefora Hixsonia "Sisi" Ntombela is a South African politician who is the 6th Premier of the Free State and a Member of the Free State Provincial Legislature. She previously served as the Free State MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements. She was also the Free State MEC for Social Development. Ntombela is the Deputy President of the African National Congress Women's League and the treasurer of the Free State ANC.

Ravigasen Ranganathan "Ravi" Pillay is a South African attorney and African National Congress (ANC) politician who has been the Member of the Executive Council for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government since November 2020. He was the MEC for Finance from May 2019 to November 2020 and the MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works from 2011 to 2019. Pillay was elected to the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature in 2009 and served as the legislature's chief whip of the majority party from 2009 to 2011.
Alvin Botes is a South African African National Congress (ANC) politician from the Northern Cape who has been serving as the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation since May 2019. He became a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa in February 2018. He was the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development from 2009 to 2013 and the MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs from 2013 to 2018. Botes served as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2018.
Sasekani Janet Manzini is a South African politician who currently serves as the MEC for Health in the Mpumalanga provincial government, appointed in July 2018 as well as the Provincial spokesperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga. She was elected to serve on the ANC's provincial executive committee (PEC) in December 2015 from the position of provincial African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) secretary. Manzini served as the MEC for the provincial Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport from August 2016 to July 2018. Mosimanegare Kenneth Mmoiemang is a South African politician who has been a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. He is a member of the Northern Cape delegation. He was the provincial MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs from 2009 to 2013 and the speaker of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2013 to 2019. Mmoiemang is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).
Gerald Mlungisi Mvoko is a South African businessman and politician serving as the Eastern Cape MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Environmental Affairs since May 2019. He has been a Member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since February 2018. Mvoko is the deputy chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC). Sokatsha is a member of the African National Congress.
Zolile Monakali is a South African educator and politician who has served as the Northern Cape MEC for Education since 16 September 2020. He was sworn in as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature on 8 September. Prior to serving in the provincial government, he was the Executive Mayor of the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality. Monakali is a member of the African National Congress and the party's Pixley ka Seme regional chairperson.
Petrus Simon Ngomana, known as Pat Ngomana, is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress, he was elected to the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature in May 2014. He served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Community Safety, Security and Liaison from August 2016 until May 2019, when he was appointed MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism. Ngomana currently serves in the post.
