Until January 1, 2007 Nørhald municipality was a municipality in the former Aarhus County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 201 km², and had a total population of 8.627 (2005). Its last mayor was Anders Buhl-Christensen, a member of the Venstre political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Tvede.

Hadsund is a city in the eastern part of Jutland with a population of 4,983. The city is located by the narrow strait of Hadsund, along an inlet called Mariager Fjord. This is a part of Mariagerfjord Municipality in the North Denmark Region. Until 2007, Hadsund was the administrative seat of Hadsund Municipality.

Vesthimmerland Municipality or Vesthimmerlands Municipality is a municipality in the North Jutland Region in Denmark. It covers an area of 768,08 km² (2013) and has a total population of 36,431 (2023). The Municipality borders Jammerbugt Municipality to the south and to the east it borders Rebild and Aalborg Municipality and to the south it borders Viborg Municipality and to the south-east it borders Mariagerfjord Municipality.
With a length of approximately 35 km, Mariager Fjord is the longest fjord in Jutland, and the 2nd longest fjord, behind Roskilde Fjord in Denmark. Mariager Fjord cuts into the Jutland peninsula from the Kattegat sea and ends at the town of Hobro; other important towns along the fjord are Hadsund and Mariager from which the fjord takes its name. Mariager fjord makes up most of the southern limit of the traditional region of Himmerland.

The Historical Museum of Northern Jutland (HMNJ) is the product of the fusion of Aalborg Historical Museum, The Museum Society for Hals, The Museum Society of Hadsund, The South Himmerland Museum, and others, in 2004.
