Marie Ortal Malka

Marie Ortal Malka (born 13 November 1978) better known as Ortal or Ortal Malka is a singer, born in Israel of Berber and Andalusian origins. She began singing when she was sixteen. In 2000 Ortal moved to Spain and joined the group Gipsy Sound. Ortal was practically unknown until she was chosen to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 when she sang "Chacun Pense à Soi" ("Everyone Thinks of Themselves") at the contest in Kyiv, placing 23rd in a field of 24. France was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song "Il était temps", written by Corneille Nyungura, and performed by Virginie Pouchain. The French participating broadcaster, France Télévisions, selected its performer for the contest through the competition Et si c'était vous? and, subsequently, the song internally once the national final was over.

France was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the song "Chacun pense à soi", written by Ortal and Saad Tabainet, and performed by Ortal herself. The French participating broadcaster, France Télévisions, organised the national final Un candidat pour l'Eurovision in order to select its entry for the 2005 contest. Five songs competed in the national final on 15 March 2005 where "Chacun pense à soi" performed by Ortal was selected as the winner following the combination of votes from a five-member jury panel and a public vote.
