Local elections was held in Marikina on May 9, 2016 within the Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, two district representatives, and councilors, eight in each of the city's two legislative districts.
Marikina,, officially the City of Marikina,, or simply known as Marikina City, is a 1st class highly urbanized city in Metro Manila, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 450,741 people.
Incumbent Mayor Del de Guzman and Incumbent Vice Mayor Jose Fabian Cadiz will run for Mayor-Vice Mayor of Marikina under Liberal Party. 1st district Cong. Marcy Teodoro and Dr. Marion Andres will run for Mayor-Vice Mayor under Nationalist People's Coalition. Former MMDA Chairman and mayor Bayani Fernando, Coun. Samuel Ferriol and Ipaglaban Mo! host Jopet Sison will fight for seat in the 1st district of Marikina. Miro Quimbo is only the candidate for the seat in the 2nd district of Marikina.
Del Reyes De Guzman is a Filipino politician. He was a Mayor of Marikina City and was a Philippine Congress Legislator for the 2nd District of Marikina City. He was also the chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture.
The Liberal Party of the Philippines or LP is a liberal political party in the Philippines, founded by then senators Senate President Manuel Roxas, Senate President Pro-Tempore Elpidio Quirino, and former 9th Senatorial District Senator José Avelino, on January 19, 1946 by a breakaway Liberal wing from the old Nacionalista Party. It was the ruling party from 2010 to 2016 after the election victory of Benigno Aquino III as the President of the Philippines. Today, the Liberals are the opposition and maintain at least five seats in the Senate, and at least 41 of seats in the House of Representatives. Around 50% of governors, 50% of vice governors, and 33% of board members are also Liberals.
Marcelino Teodoro is a Filipino politician who is the current Mayor of Marikina. He previously served as member of the Philippine House of Representatives as representative of the 1st District of Marikina City.
Incumbent Representative Marcelino Teodoro, is term-limited and he is barred from running again this election. Councilor Samuel Ferriol, former Marikina mayor and MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, and Ipaglaban Mo! host Jopet Sison will be vying for the seat in congress that Teodoro will be vacating. [1]
Ipaglaban Mo!, also known as Kapag Nasa Katwiran, Ipaglaban Mo!, is a dramatization of actual cases brought and settled in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. It appeals to the general public because of the wide range of issues tackled. The objective is to inform and educate the masses who have the same experience or people who in the future might get into the same situation.

Bayani Flores Fernando is a Filipino politician, businessman and professional mechanical engineer. He serves as representative of the 1st district of Marikina City since June 2016. It is in the term of President Gloria Arroyo, where he served as Chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) he gained notability and mixed public reaction on his style of governance. He announced his intention to run for President of the Philippines in the 2010 general elections, but after talks with Richard Gordon, he agreed to run instead as Vice-President under Gordon's newly established party, Bagumbayan. Their ticket was dubbed "the Transformers"; he lost in the polls, placing fourth.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, is an agency of the Republic of the Philippines created embracing the cities of Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Pasay, Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasig, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Parañaque, Valenzuela, Malabon, Taguig, Navotas and San Juan and the municipality of Pateros. Metropolitan Manila or the National Capital Region is constituted into a special development and administrative region subject to direct supervision of the Office of the President of the Philippines. Marist School is a Catholic school for boys located in Marikina, Metro Manila, Philippines established by the Marist Brothers in 1964. The school currently holds a level III accreditation from PAASCU and is considered to be the largest educational institution to date in Marikina City. This was the second school founded by the Marist Brothers in the Philippines; the first one was the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University in General Santos City.
Maria Lourdes "Marides" Carlos-Fernando is a Filipino politician who served as the Mayor of Marikina from 2001 to 2010. She is the wife of former MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, also a former city mayor of Marikina. She was among the 11 finalists for the 2008 World Mayor award, ranking 7th.
