Local elections in Caloocan City were held on May 9, 2016 within the Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, the two Congressmen, and the councilors, six in each of the city's two legislative districts.
On October 7, 2015, current city mayor Oscar Malapitan announced that he will run again for mayor of Caloocan City under the "Tao Ang Una" (People First) party. Originally, Tao ang Una was Malapitan's campaign slogan during the 2013 elections, but he formed his own political party that has approved by the COMELEC on September 18. Malapitan represented and chaired the city's United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) chapter. [1]
The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) is a political party in the Philippines. It was created as a multi-party electoral alliance replacing the former United Opposition (UNO) coalition for the 2013 midterm elections, before it was launched as a single political party on July 1, 2015 by Jejomar Binay for his candidacy in the 2016 presidential election.
Tao Ang Una party was composed of city-based politicians affiliated with the Liberal Party (LP), Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) and UNA. Among them was LP Vice Chairman for Political Affairs and District 2 Representative Edgar Erice and Vice Mayor Macario Asistio III.
Malapitan, will seek a reelection in the elections, up against former city mayor and District 1 Representative Recom Echiverri, who will run under the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC). Both, Malapitan and Echiverri will also face-to-face with Macario "Boy" Asistio III, who served as the city mayor of Caloocan for 14 years .
The Nationalist People's Coalition or NPC is a conservative political party in the Philippines, founded in 1992 by then presidential candidate Eduardo Cojuangco Jr.

The Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, formerly Partido ng Masang Pilipino is a populist political party in the Philippines. It is the political party of former Philippine President Joseph Estrada. In the 1998 presidential election, it aligned itself with other political parties to create Laban ng Makabayang Masang Pilipino or LAMMP.
Francis Joseph "Chiz" Guevara Escudero is a Filipino and the fourth generation politician of the Escudero clan. He has been a member of the Philippine Senate since 2007.
