The first Winter Olympic Games, the 1924 Winter Olympics, were held in Chamonix, France. The modern Olympic Games were inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, which were held in Olympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894, leading to the first modern Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece in 1896. Sherraine Schalm, formerly Sherraine Schalm-MacKay, is a former top-ranked Canadian Olympic épée fencer. She is a World Cup medal winner, elementary school teacher and author. She is a graduate of the University of Ottawa. At the 2005 World Fencing Championships she won a bronze medal in the individual épée event, becoming the first Canadian to ever win a World Championships medal in the sport. The next season, in 2005–06, she won the overall World Cup title.

Individually, he placed sixth in the 100 m freestyle with a time of 54.5 seconds.
Peru sent a delegation to compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from 12–28 February 2010. This marked Peru's debut at the Winter Olympics. The Peruvian delegation consisted of three athletes: two alpine skiers—Manfred Oettl Reyes and Ornella Oettl Reyes—and the cross-country skier Roberto Carcelen. The nation's best performance in any event was 67th place in the men's giant slalom alpine skiing event by Manfred Oettl Reyes.

He was also a three-time winner of the Honolulu Marathon, in 1973, 1974 and 1980. In 2017, MacDonald was the boys and girls cross country coach at the Punahou School in Honolulu.
Wendy Kay Wagner is an American former cross-country skier. She competed at the 2002 Winter Olympics and the 2006 Winter Olympics. After the Olympics, Wagner worked as an avalanche forecaster for the United States Forest Service.
Jhonny MacKay is an Ecuadorian judoka. He competed in the men's half-middleweight event at the 1976 Summer Olympics.
