Mark Suciu (pronounced Soo-Choo) (Born August 3, 1992) is an American professional skateboarder from Saratoga, CA, based out of New York City. In 2021, Suciu was named Thrasher's Skater of the Year. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]
Mark Suciu was born on August 3, 1992, and grew up less than an hour south from San Francisco in Saratoga, California. Suciu has a brother and their father is from Romania. His father attended The University of California, Berkeley where he graduated with a Ph.D. in Engineering. After graduating high school, Suciu was skating full time until he sustained an ankle injury. After a period of time, Suciu felt that he was burned out from skateboarding and wanted to explore other facets of life. Suciu decided to attend Temple University where he studied Creative Writing and Literature. [9] After two years of living in Philadelphia, Suciu moved to New York City to attend The New School. [10]
Suciu started skateboarding when he was six years old. He found inspiration through watching the X Games on TV, seeing local kids skating, and from his cousin who lives in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Every summer, Suciu would visit his cousin in Pennsylvania where he was able to skate frequently in Philadelphia and Love Park. His first real skateboard was a Powell Peralta Blue & Golden Dragon Steve Caballero deck. Suciu used to compete in the eS Game of Skate contests frequently. [11]
As of 2021, Suciu rides for Habitat Skateboards, and has numerous other sponsors including Adidas Footwear, Spitfire Wheels, Thunder Trucks, RVCA Clothing, Jessup Griptape, and Atlas Skateshop. [12]
Thrasher is an American skateboarding media brand founded in January 1981 by Eric Swenson and Fausto Vitello, who also founded Independent Truck Company, and officially launched as a skateboard magazine. Since the 1990s, Thrasher has expanded its presence in television, video production, online blogging and merchandising.
Deluxe Distribution is an Ermico Enterprises, Inc.-owned American skateboarding company founded in 1986 with limited partner Brian Ware in San Francisco. Deluxe was formed to distribute the Beware Record label, and other small record labels popular with skateboarders, along with Thunder Trucks and Supercush Bushings. Deluxe distributes six skateboard brands and owns DLXSF, a retail outlet.
Mark Gonzales, also known as "Gonz", "the Gonz" and "the Godfather", is an American professional skateboarder and artist. A pioneer in the development of modern street skating, he is considered one of the first street-style skateboarders alongside Natas Kaupas. Gonzales and Kaupas are also credited with the first known boardslides on a handrail. Gonzales' pioneering influence on skateboarding has caused him to be known as the "God Father" of modern street skateboarding, and he was named the "Most Influential Skateboarder of All Time" by Transworld Skateboarding magazine in December 2011.
