Mark Koevermans is a former tennis player from the Netherlands, who turned professional in 1987. He represented his native country as a lucky loser at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, where he was defeated in the third round by Brazil's Jaime Oncins. Going by the nickname Koef, a right-hander, won one career title in singles. He reached his highest singles ATP-ranking on 27 May 1991, when he was ranked number 37.

Mark Kaplan is a South African born tennis player. The right-hander reached his highest ATP singles ranking of 117 on 25 June 1990. He also reached a career high doubles ranking of 219.

In the doubles of the 2019 Meerbusch Challenger tennis competition, David Pérez Sanz and Mark Vervoort were the defending champions but only Vervoort chose to defend his title, partnering Íñigo Cervantes. Vervoort lost in the first round to Sander Arends and David Pel.

This was the second edition of the tournament. There was no defending champion as the tournament was canceled at the quarterfinals stage due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
