Matrix Games is a publisher of PC games, specifically strategy games and wargames. It is based in Ohio, US, and Surrey, UK. [1]
Their focus is primarily but not exclusively on wargames and turn-based strategy. The product line-up also includes space sims ( Starshatter: The Gathering Storm ), sports management sims ( Maximum-Football ), and real-time strategy titles ( Close Combat: Cross of Iron ).
Matrix Games publishes games from a variety of developers, including SSG, 2by3 Games, Panther Games, Koios Works, Destroyer Studios, Western-Civilization and AGEOD.
Matrix Games was founded by David Heath and Shaun Wallace in 1999 in Staten Island, New York City. As of January 2010, Matrix Games has published over 75 titles. Matrix has in-house artists, programmers, and producers which all take active roles in projects of smaller wargame developers who lack the resources to hire full-time staff otherwise.
In May 2010, Matrix Games and Slitherine announced a merger of the two companies making it the largest wargaming specialist publisher. [2] Matrix Games also publishes wargames for the US defense industry.

Panzer General is a 1994 computer wargame developed and published by Strategic Simulations Inc. (SSI). It simulates conflict during World War II. The designers of Panzer General were heavily influenced by the Japanese wargame series Daisenryaku.
Steel Panthers is a series of computer wargames, developed and published by several different companies, with various games simulating war battles from 1930 to 2025. The first Steel Panthers game was released in 1995, and the most recent update was released in 2018 and is still updated regularly (yearly).
The Charles S. Roberts Awards is an annual award for excellence in the historical wargaming hobby. It was named in honor of Charles S. Roberts the "Father of Wargaming" who founded Avalon Hill. The award is informally called a "Charlie" and officially called a "Charles S. Roberts Award". The Wargamer magazine called it "very prestigious". The Award is managed by the Charles S. Roberts Award Committee which has no commercial sponsorship, made up of designers, writers and hobbyists. It is a "people's award" with winners chosen through votes submitted by fans.
Gary Grigsby is a designer and programmer of computer wargames. In 1997, he was described as "one of the founding fathers of strategy war games for the PC." Computer Games Magazine later dubbed him "as much of an institution in his niche of computer gaming as Sid Meier, Will Wright, or John Carmack are in theirs."
